A Tan Thai lising Thai Buffet at Feast Sheraton Petaling Jaya

For a limited time only, Feast at the Sheraton Petaling Jaya is offering a special Thai buffet spread featuring the culinary creations of guest chef Somkid Ketkaew from The Bangkok Marriott Hotel, The Surawongse.

Chef Somkid will be at The Sheraton from now until October 6th, for a short two week visit. If you’re a fan of Thai cuisine, you’ll have to hurry over to The Sheraton, PJ before the promo ends.

The Thai buffet spread will feature items like appetizers and salads, soups, several main dishes and sweet additions to the dessert counter. Rather than a standalone Thai-only buffet, the spread is actually incorporated into the Sheraton's usual International spread.

Therefore, you’ll be able to enjoy Thai dishes in addition to Indian, Chinese, Malay, Western and Japanese food.

Chef Somkid’s dishes occupy a prominent corner of The Sheraton’s Feast restaurant. The names of the dishes are clearly written on the glass partitions above them, while others have labels so you’ll know exactly what each dish is.

Some highlights of the Thai spread included Yum Makhua Yaow , which is an eggplant salad with boiled egg. The simple sauce made of lime juice, chopped shallots, coriander, bird’s eye chili and fish sauce really brings out the natural texture of the eggplant and boiled egg.

At the main section, there was Pad-Thai made with vermicelli. This was a departure from the normal flat rice noodles usually used, and really gave a whole new dimension to it.

Other dishes here included Kaow Paucogoong ( fried rice with prawns), Red curry with beef and Gai Tea ( chicken wrapped in pandan leaves). The Gai Tea really stood out due to its rich savory flavor highlighted by the fragrance of the pandan leaves.

Chef Somkid changes the menu on a daily basis, so different dishes are presented on different days.

My favorite dish to prepare is the soup” said Chef Somkid when asked. Yesterday it was Tom Yum Goong, and today it is Tom Kha Gai which is spicy coconut soup with chicken.”

Surprisingly, chef Somkid has a special connection to many of his creations. This red curry with beef has many good memories for me because I helped my Mama to prepare it when I was young. The Pad Thai and Gai Tea also” he adds.

Chef Somkid grew up helping his mother run a small eatery in the Trat province of Eastern Thailand. Now with more than 25 years under his belt, he’s bringing all these specialties to you.
