There was a time when Faber Towers, a pretty well known landmark in Taman Desa, was left in a dilapidated state. Most of the ground floor commercial lots were dark and empty, with only one or two lots lit up. That was about 7 years ago and the good news is, Faber Towers has been renovated and spruced up. Now, most of its ground floor commercial lots are filled with plenty of great eateries, most of which are western influenced. With the presence of all these eateries and a premium supermarket on site, Faber Towers has transformed into a very happening spot in Taman Desa, especially on weekends.
One of the restaurants at Faber Towers is BreadFruits, a casual dining spot that can get pretty crowded on weekends. The place is open for breakfast all the way to dinner. Their menu is rather simple and it’s not as extensive as some other places. However, their Italian, Spanish and other European inspired dishes are very healthy and there are many options for vegetarians. All the dishes we ended up ordering came with a generous amount of vegetables, all of them really fresh. At dinner when we were there, the menu was a one paged affair printed on both sides of an A3 sheet of paper.
BreadFruits is a non-halal eatery where pork is served, most commonly in the form of bacon. The evening I visited, I was feeling a bit under the weather from a cold. So most of what I ordered was meat-free. However, this didn’t diminish the quality of the food one bit.
They have quite a few interesting Tapas and we had the sautéed mushrooms. You can actually combine three Tapas to make a platter for RM45. Their sautéed mushrooms were not greasy, and you can actually taste a bit of the natural earthiness of the mushrooms. They weren’t soggy at all, and there were about two or three types of mushrooms in the mix.
Hubby had a Basil Cashew Pesto pasta and it was piled with a whole lot of rocket leaves that gave it that much needed lilt. There were plenty of nuts in the pasta too, and this made an otherwise boring dish more fun. In all, the pasta was really healthy in taste too, meaning that it wasn’t heavy on the taste buds.
I chose the Mushroom Asparagus risotto, and it was pretty well cooked. There were plenty of mushrooms and asparagus, but one part of the risotto didn’t really cut it for me, and that was the bits of celery they put in. If celery is not your thing, maybe you can go for another risotto option.
The pasta and risotto are priced between RM 21 to RM27. The mains on offer include Wild Honey Pork Chops, Rosemary Pork Chop, Classic Fish and Chips, and Pesto Grilled Salmon with Asparagus Guacamole, among others. At dinner, they’re priced between RM27 to RM35. Apart from that, you can also choose to have Paella for between RM55-RM65. The menu also includes coffee, teas, mocktails and cold pressed juices.
BreadFruits is one place that’s suitable for a special treat, especially if you want to get bacon and pork that’s cooked in a healthy manner, with lots of veggies.
