Although Malaysia has many ballet schools that provide training for young dancers, the country still lacks a professional avenue for aspiring dancers. The familiar path for these dancers is to seek training abroad through scholarships, sponsorships, or parental financial support. However, these options are not always widely accessible, leading to potential talent being put on the back burner.
Thus, comes the inception of Ballet Theatre Malaysia (BTM). BTM is the first professional ballet company based in Klang Valley, Malaysia, jointly established by Datin Jane Lew, Choong Wan Chin, and Rachel Chew.
By creating high-quality works, a dancer’s dream can flourish at BTM.
BTM is committed to creating a space where every dancer’s dream can flourish while bringing founder Datin Jane Lew’s vision of a world-class arts scene to life. To achieve this, BTM aims for international recognition in the classical ballet scene with quality productions.
BTM integrates two essential components to meet these goals: “hardware” in physical theatre and “software,” such as experienced artistic and production personnel. This combination is critical in developing local talent while encouraging dancers to build their future on home ground.
BTM proudly presents “SPECTRUM: Triple Bill” as the opening show at Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC) from 17 to 26 December. “SPECTRUM: Triple Bill” will feature charming classical music, such as “Don Quixote” (Act 1), Franz Schubert’s “Impromptu,” and “Bruch’s Violin Concerto” the main highlights of the performance.
