DPAC to host a line-up of unique workshops throughout June

This June, Damansara Performing Arts Centre DPAC will be hosting a line-up of unique workshops. Learn how to strut your stuff in heels, optimize health through Mind-Body-Centering, use movements and physicality to tell a story, integrate contemporary dance and poetry as a new artistic process, or even analyze scripts for performance. 

Text Analysis and the Decoding of a Script Workshop 

As an actor, understanding the intention behind a script is vital. The TEXT ANALYSIS AND THE DECODING OF A SCRIPT WORKSHOP led by actor, director, playwright, and theatre educator Seng Soo Ming will give you the tools to dissect scripts and dialogue and translate that knowledge into your performance on stage or screen. The workshop runs 4 & 5 June 2022 from 10am - 5:30pm

Handpan Workshop 

Did you know? The Handpan is a hand-based percussion instrument invented in 2001. 

By using both hands, playing the Handpan can work the left and right sides of the brain. Its unique resonance and frequency ratio also has calming effects and is widely used in sound therapy. 

If this special instrument intrigues you, then join the Handpan Workshop led by percussionist Thong Yoong How! The workshop runs every Sunday from  12 June - 4 September 2022 from 11:00am - 12:00pm

Poethesis Workshop 

POETHESIS is a workshop that brings together contemporary dance and concrete (visual) poetry. Led by Jessie Jing, she is dedicated to creating a space that allows you to experience the process of transforming words into movement and movement into words. 

The workshop will be delivered in English, although participants are encouraged to involve their suited languages during the creation process. The workshop runs on 18 June 2022 from 10:30am - 1:30pm

Heels Workshop 

Explore your inner femininity and sensuality with Zara Jayne at this HEELS WORKSHOP. This two-hour session will explore basic techniques such as walking, posing, and turning in heels for stage and camera work. You will be taught a choreographed piece that explores lines, angles, technicality and execution that prepares performers for industry experiences. 

Purpose of this workshop: To hone the skills of performers with beginner to intermediate heels techniques and choreography for stage or camera experience while exploring their femininity and sensuality. The workshop runs on 18 June 2022 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Moving from Within Workshop series 

Curious about how different energies and layers in our bodies affect our health? Utilizing the Body-Mind-Centering and Macrobiotic approaches, the Moving from Within Workshop series by Jinn Lau aims to help you lead a healthier lifestyle through an understanding of the five elements and internal organs in relation to your own bodies. The workshop runs every Saturday from 18 June - 6 August 2022 from 11:00am - 12:15pm

Transmediation through Movement and Physical Theatre 

The body can be an instrument of storytelling. At the TRANSMEDIATION THROUGH MOVEMENT AND PHYSICAL THEATRE Workshop by Tristen ZiJuin, you, too, can learn how to effectively use your body and face to emote and create authentic performances in storytelling. The workshop runs on 19 June 2022 from 10:00am - 5:00pm
