Listen to the kindness of your parents this 1 July
“If Father is a boat, then Mother is the sail that gives me the motivation to move forward. They always give me strength in places I can’t see.” This is Evelyn’s confession about her own parents, but this sentiment can also be shared by parents from all over the world.
Two years after her collaboration with WVC, Evelyn Toh once again teams up with this Malaysian Jazz Ensemble to present “For You, My Beloved” in conjunction with parents’ day. Presented by Damansara Performing Arts Centre (DPAC), “For You, My Beloved” will be performed from 1-3 July 2022.
Inviting you to listen to the unspoken dedication
Do you remember the touching things your parents have done for you? How long have they been doing it?
Regardless of whether there is a celebration day for parents, we certainly need a day to dedicate our gratitude and love to our parents. Evelyn Toh and WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble are taking advantage of this Parents’ Day to revamp old classics and express their love to parents through song.
Just like how the Chinese song “Father” goes: "I’m always asking you for something, but I never said thank you. I didn’t understand that you didn’t have it easy until I grew up."
This Parents’ Day, DPAC hopes that the public will bring their parents to the theatre and enter a time machine that takes them back to the past to witness the unspoken dedication of their parents.
Time for you to hold their hand
“The child who just learned how to walk but stumbled; the child who just learned how to hold a spoon but spilt food on their clothes; the child who always forgot how to tie their shoelaces…That is all of you, patiently teaching over and over again.” — Evelyn Toh.
From 1-3 July, there will be consecutive performances of “For You, My Beloved”, brought to you by the famous soprano Evelyn Toh and WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble. The arranged songs carry the stories of the singers and their parents, of the memories they want to remember and are afraid of forgetting, and of the memories that everyone wants to explore and fill.
This Parents’ Day, it is your turn now to hold out your hand to your parents and relive these memories together in “For You, My Beloved”.
