Escape the conventional and surrender to Refreshing Encounters with Hendrick’s Gin
A series of cool diversions await with Hendrick’s Gin at participating bars across Kuala Lumpur, including the long-anticipated return of the Cucumber Hour.
Escape the conventional and surrender to Refreshing Encounters with Hendrick’s Gin. From 19 to 21 July, Hendrick’s is inviting all cucumberists, gin lovers and their curious companions to indulge in a cool diversion as it brings a series of summer soirees to select bars in Kuala Lumpur, including the highly anticipated return of its annual Cucumber Currency Exchange.
Kicking off, Charmaine Thio, Southeast Asia Brand Ambassador for Hendrick’s Gin will be taking over Reka (19 July), G-String (20 July) and Three X Co (21 July). Bringing Refreshing Encounters to some of Kuala Lumpur’s hottest watering holes, her guest shifts will serve up an unimpeachable selection of summer libations and popsicle pairings to delight and cool the senses.
And culminating in the ultimate Refreshing Encounter, the series will see the return of Hendrick’s long-awaited Cucumber Hour. Come 21 July, in celebration of the mighty cucumber, 59 bars across the city will host the annual Cucumber Currency Exchange, making the green of cucumber (any species permitted!) legal tender. For one night only, you can exchange the remarkable fruit for a delectable Hendrick’s and Tonic. No cash, no cards, only cucumbers!
“No other gin tastes like Hendrick’s because no other gin is made like Hendrick’s. The mighty cucumber plays such a pivotal role in making Hendrick’s Gin and its cocktails distinctly unusual, and this is why we dedicate a day each year to celebrate noble fruit and its wondrous possibilities,” comments Charmaine Thio, Hendrick’s Gin Southeast Asia ambassador.
The spirit’s distillation process includes infusions of rose and cucumber, yielding an extraordinarily inviting gin that is a rare union of lightness and complexity. And there’s no better way to cap off a Hendrick’s cocktail than with a garnish cut from the same fruit that gives the gin its character. Whether a classic slice or a bold wedge, the addition of cucumber in any Hendrick’s cocktail is sure to not only please the eye but delight the palate as well.
“Hendrick's Gin was born to inspire moments of delightful peculiarity” explains Charmaine. “As we grapple with the mundanity of the new everyday, our series of Refreshing Encounters builds on the annual celebration of the mighty cucumber with a rallying call to break free from convention and seek out marvellously unexpected occasions that renew our curiosity and spark joy beyond reason."
The opening hours for the Cucumber Currency Exchange will vary across participating outlets, and Cucumber Hour redemptions are limited to 40 per bar, and one per customer. Join the guest shifts from 8pm to 11pm at Reka (19 July), G-String (20 July) and Three X Co (21 July).
