There is nothing better than a lazy Sunday morning.  But by the afternoon, we start thinking about Monday and the week ahead.  Hugo’s KL offers a great way to shake off the looming Monday blues and spice up the end of your weekend – with their Sunday Blues & BBQ buffet.

The buffet is a carnivore’s delight, with all you can eat marinated lamb, minute steak, chicken wings, chicken sausages, grilled fish, squid, and of course the traditional Malaysian satay, both chicken and beef.  Side dishes include BBQ baked potatoes, corn on the cob and grilled tomato.  For RM60nett, you can consume a lot of meat for the price.  And kids under 7 eat for free.

But the real highlight of the day is the band.  Playing live from 3 pm onwards is the GIT Project – comprising well known Jazz – Blues Malaysian musicians Sherman Tan, Teddy Iskandar and the legendary Gary Gideon.  These guys have great synergy together and Sherman can wail the blues like a local BB King.  Their music makes it worth coming out for.

The BBQ buffet offers a good variety of meats.  The lamb was particularly tasty, tender and was delicious on its own or with French mustard.  The beef satay, marinated in the traditional turmeric sauce, was also tender and delicious.   We also enjoyed the salmon, flavoured simply with salt & pepper, so as to not diminish the taste of the fish itself.

On the vegetable side, baked potatoes and corn are staples for a BBQ and can be enjoyed unabashedly.  But my favourite was the grilled tomatoes.  With simple salt marination, they are juicy and fresh and compliment the meats nicely.  While the spread is modest at the moment, Hugo’s KL is looking to expand to offer more salads and sides, and possibly even include a BBQ option for vegetarians.

Adding to the festivities are beer and wine promotions, which make the day all the more enjoyable.  For RM99 you can enjoy 10 glasses of Carlsberg, a perfect promotion for sharing among your group.  And for the wine drinker, Hugo’s KL has a 3 hour, free flow of two French and two Argentine wines for RM100 per person.  The wines are light and easy to drink.  They go well with the BBQ or just to sip on its own while enjoying the music.  We certainly enjoyed both!

The full menu is still available, so if some members of your party are not keen on a full BBQ, they can enjoy al carte meals.  We topped off our BBQ feast with coffees and the flourless chocolate cake – a sinful way to end our lunch, and highly recommended for any chocolate lover.

Overall, Hugo’s KL Sunday Blues & BBQ is an easy, yet upbeat way to bring your weekend to a cheerful close. Catch the BBQ in October on Sunday 6th (Official Launch Event) and Sunday 20th October, November: Sunday 3rd and Sunday 17th November, December: Sunday 1st and Sunday 15th December

Hugo’s KL, located on the ground floor of Ramada Suites by Wyndham KLCC is located on the corner of Lorong Ceylon and Jalan Berangan in Bukit Ceylon, one street behind Changkat. For reservations contact them on +60 3-2386 9288
