Knowhere Bangsar Bar and Restaurant Review

Knowhere Bangsar Bar and Restaurant Review

In KL, if you’re talking about great nightlife experiences, there are some key areas that stand out. Jalan Telawi in Bangsar is definitely one of these places. About a year ago a new eatery and bar opened called Knowhere. It currently occupies a prominent place facing the main road and you can’t miss it.

Although there are many bars around, Knowhere has a very unique vibe that’s one of a kind. For starters, guests will notice the fairy lights decorating the ceiling, as well as the beautiful wall art covering the entire length of one side. The blue lights at the bar completed the décor, and this just gave the whole place a real fantasy dreamlike atmosphere.

Knowhere’s menu was pretty fascinating to look through. They have many of the usual western dishes you’d expect, like the Classic Carbonara ( RM 27.80) and Chicken Mexicana Pizza ( RM28.80). However, upon closer inspection, you’ll notice that the menu is full of fusion dishes with a Malaysian touch. This is something you don’t see everywhere.

We were curious about so many items but settled on the Ulam Pesto pasta (RM23.80) and their hidden menu pizza (RM 36.80, ask for it!) which is a half and half of any flavour they have. We combined Nang Nak Knowhere (which is Jackfruit, onion, tomatoes and mozzarella)with Italian Mutton Kari.

The pizza was a real treat. All pizzas here are served in an elongated rectangle rather than the usual rounded shape, but they’re cut into easy to eat triangles. The Nang Nak Knowhere takes its name from Nangka, which is Malay for Jackfruit. This part of the pizza was slightly sweet but none of the flavours overpowered one another. The crust was crispy and savoury, without even a hint of sogginess anywhere. Perfection.

The Italian mutton curry part of the pizza was so satisfying and hearty, with fresh mutton cooked to tenderness and baked with plenty of cheese. I must say this was my personal favourite out of everything we tried. The mutton curry tasted authentic, and it went surprisingly well with the tomato sauce and cheese too. And this is coming from a fan of Indian cuisine.

In addition to these, we also had the Sharing Platter (RM 48.80) which consisted of chicken wings, chicken liver pate, sautéed mushrooms, crispy baby shrimps and garlic bread. It’s great for 2-3 people to snack on over some drinks. The same can be said about the Knowhere Nachos (RM26.80) with Monterey Jack cheese, pulled roast chicken, guacamole and their special Knowhere sauce on top.

The drinks menu, just like their food menu, has many cocktails that are influenced by local Malaysian elements. We settled on the Keluarga (RM32) and the Masala Chai Sour (RM32). Keluarga is a fascinating little creation of Bacardi, Carta Blanca, Rum, Pandan, Coconut, Ginger and Lime. It was particularly refreshing to be able to taste the subtle coconut flavour in this.

Knowhere holds a special place for vegetarians in their hearts, as the owners themselves are vegetarians. Therefore the menu is full of interesting vegetarian friendly creations like the Ranch Pita Roll filled with cheese and roasted veggies ( RM 20.80), Baba Ganoush on Toast ( RM 15.80), Al Funghi pizza ( RM28.80) and Grilled Mushroom and Pepper sandwich ( RM26.80) just to name a few.

Being sustainable, environmentally friendly and inclusive is what makes Knowhere your somewhere to go to for a night (or day) of wining and dining. It doesn’t matter who you are, you’ll feel equally welcomed in this corner of Bangsar.
