Poolside Open Mic #115 ft Monoriff
MONORIFF is what happens when an electronics rock group meets pop sensibility at the dancefloor. Putting aside their experimental indie rock style to evolve into catchy dance beats, the duo strengthens their music production capabilities with this new setup. Starting off as a five-piece band, the group began playing unreleased demo tracks at live performances including Fresh Bottle, MMU Cyberjaya and World Youth Festival, Putrajaya. However, opening for Estranged at Music Republic, MMU Malacca in 2012, propelled them into public consciousness, growing enthusiastic local fans. After a one year break as a band, MONORIFF is back as an electronica duo, prepared to release five singles that explore the melancholy attached to the modern pursuit for love. Followed by hints of an upcoming album with their present music influences from instrumental, symphonic and orchestral music. Armed with love-struck beats, MONORIFF continues propelling as a volatile wave of musical genius with the momentum they have built to date. Follow them: https://www.instagram.com/monoriff/

Nadir at Alexis
(November 15-16)
Nadir embodies the idea of celebrating our differences and revering our roots, embracing the colourful ups and downs of our past while bravely exploring the unwritten future to create a meaningful now, worthy of a lasting legacy. By fusing sounds that represent our different worldly experiences, culture and the spirit of collaboration, the band moulds what is uniquely Malaysian music with limitless sonic & cultural boundaries. Where carnatic vocals duel with rock riffs; where sitar melodies permeate through explosive percussion and tabla cadences; where tin whistles sing with saxophone melodies, the music is most definitely not what many would expect. The band operates as a collective with a fluid line up of regularly featured musicians playing a wide variety of instruments such as Sitar, Violin, Gambus, Bagpipes, Erhu, Yangqin and many more. In 2017, Nadir went on tour in Cambodia and performed to 10000+ people at The Cambodian Water Festival in Phnom Penh and collaborated with Cambodian superstar Laura Mam, with a single due for release internationally in 2019.

Ploy Open Mic #119 ft Sounds of Kites
Wan Umar Shahid Wan Ibrahim is a Malaysian singer-songwriter, musician and composer, who performs under the stage name of Sounds Of Kites. An avid listener of folk music, experimental and post-rock, Sounds Of Kites is his amalgamation of sound ideas blending together in an effort to create the images he pictures. With soldiers of guitars behind him on stage, coupled with a baritone vocal, the songs he plays paint the audience pictures ranging from the galloping sounds of taking a ride on a steam-engined locomotive, to the soundscape that is justifiable only by drifting in a vast black sea. Having collected the necessary ammunition, pebbles and experience, Sounds Of Kites began recording his debut album Remember Sycamore in April 2017. Releasd September 2018, the album speaks of a reminder to always remember the trails and climbs done in the past, to desperately breaking away from the constraints that have chained us down, and to salute a solemn farewell to changing faces. Follow him: https://www.instagram.com/soundsofkites/
