John Thomas Quartet at NBT

John Ashley Thomas is a renowned drummer who has been playing the drums since the age of 3. He has toured the Blue Note Circuit in Japan with Motown Legends and worked alongside Grammy-winning flautist Nestor Torres. John has played at numerous jazz festivals such as the Jarasum International Jazz Festival, Jazz Yatra International Jazz Festival, Hong Kong International Jazz Festival and ARTS ALIVE! International Festival in South Africa.

Kirsten Long is an urban folk jazz singer-songwriter who has been in the entertainment industry since 2013 is making waves in the Malaysia independent music scene with theatrical tunes like, Be Yourself to an edgier rock tune, like Loser. Over the years, Kirsten has been on stage with renowned musicians such as Az Samad, Joe Pruessner, Julian Chan and etc. Touring around Malaysia in established events/venues such as the Butterworth Fringe Festival, No Black Tie, Medini Live, MPO Unplugged (Dewan Filharmonik) and the Taipa Houses-Museum in Macau just to name a few. Nothing can stop her from sharing the vast variety of tunes that will continue to entertain the people for generations to come.

Was It A Lie includes collaborations from ground breaking Malaysian musicians and singers that result in a massive live recording session. Clinton Jerome Chua is a Sarawakian-born fresh new face to the Soul, R&B and Jazz scene. He started his musical journey from church, from then he went on to perform at various conferences in Borneo and pursued professionally in 2013 after releasing 2 singles.

Dubbed the Soul prince of Borneo, Pete Kallang is known for his joyful personality and emotional engagement during live performances. Pete understands that music is about creating a journey in each song, and has become one of the most prolific performers in the 21st Century to emerge from Sarawak. His authenticity continues to captivate audiences like many great legends, such as Marvin Gaye and Earth Wind and Fire.

Tay Cher Siang & Michael Veerapen: Two Pianos at NBT

Michael Veerapen is an established Jazz pianist, producer, record studio head and mentor who launched his career even before graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with Summa Cum Laude in 1982, making a name for himself in the industry. At the 2017 SEA Games grand opening ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Michael was the music director, composer and orchestrator, which was broadcasted live to all major ASEAN countries.

Tay Cher Siang took interest in Jazz during his teenage years and began to pursue his musical journey as a jazz pianist. He has been active in the Kuala Lumpur music scene since his return from the States and has performed in various music festivals such as Malacca Straits Jazz Festival, Mosaic Music Festival, Phuket International Jazz Fest, Manila Jazz Fest, among others. His commitments to collaborations with many musicians and singers in the country have led to many fruitful concerts, productions and recordings.
