FEBRUARY 28: Le Noir KL Thursday

DANI & The Nightshades live on stage hits the stage from 11 pm onwards. Dani is an aspiring Jazz/blues singer. She started out in the mid of 2015 at a local open mic event and has since been perusing music.

 

 

With her unique voice, she makes covers sound vintage, and has most recently been writing and performing her own originals. Muzza (Muzza's Page) performs early from 7 pm.

FEBRUARY 28: Amelia Ong & Hardy Afro Quartet at NBT

In 2009, Amelia Ong completed her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts where she majored in Jazz Performance. Since then she has performed in international jazz festivals, such as the Java Jazz International Festival in Jakarta and the World Youth Jazz Festival in Malaysia. Amelia began singing and playing the piano at the age of 4.

 

 

 

Today she’s developed a concept for herself with a wide repertoire of jazz standards, which gives her a new age edge in her compositions and performances and has made her mark in the Australian and Indonesian music industry as a young and fresh, Jazz & Soul artist. Performing with her will be Hady Afro Quartet. Led by Hady Afro on guitar, Tengku Indra (founder of New Village Music Lab) on piano, Amar Azalan on bass and Bob Skunjaz on drums.

FEBRUARY 28:  Pisco Bar presents Jumero

"Jumero" was formed around September 2012, but have been performing, jamming and creating music together for much longer than that. The group consists of three friends, two of whom are brothers and the other their neighbour!

 

 

They met playing "futsal" in their neighbourhood and eventually started jamming out songs that they deemed "jumero" worthy. Jared Lim (guitar, lead vocals, songwriter), Michael Lim (bass, piano, vocals), Ryan David Gomes (drummer, percussions, vocals).

MARCH 1/2: Amelia Ong & Michael Veerapen Trio

Amelia Ong has had her life revolve around many big jazz names such as James Morrison, Buby Chen, Benny Likumahua, and Ireng Maulana, including many more, since she was young. She’s an Indonesian Jazz musician and vocalist who completed her studies at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts. She made her mark after releasing her 2 albums, Amelia Ong in 2015 and Christmas Songbook in 2016, and performing around international jazz festivals.

Amelia Ong will be performing alongside established Jazz pianist, producer, record studio head and mentor, Michael Veerapen who launched his career even before graduating from the prestigious Berklee College of Music with Summa Cum Laude in 1982, making a name for himself in the industry. At 2017 SEA Games grand opening ceremony held in Kuala Lumpur, Michael was the music director, composer and orchestrator, which was broadcasted live to all major ASEAN countries.

MARCH 4: Ivory Series: Beasts and Demons at NBT

Ivory Series March Edition will feature Le Bestiaire by accomplished French composer and pianist, Francis Poulenc. It was a live recitation by poet Apollinaire in 1919 that inspired the composer to set his texts to music; the resulting song cycle, Le Bestiaire, stands as the first of several convergences between Apollinaire’s poetry and Poulenc’s music.

 

 

A former student of Michael Ruiz at the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago, Mei Lin is a classical pianist that holds a Master of Music Degree and Professional Studies Diploma from the Manhattan School of Music in New York, where she studied with renowned teacher Zenon Fishbein. Mei Lin is the winner of the 1995 Artist International Competition in New York, and in the following year, she was awarded the R. Rubinstein Award for Outstanding Woman Pianist in New York. She was also the winner of the Mleczyslaw Munz Piano Competition, Grace Welsh Prize for piano and finalist in the Andorra International Piano Competition.

Performing with Mei Lin will be Chi Hoe Mak on Baritone, Mei Foong Ang on Soprano, Anne Dé on paper art and dancer, Ix Wong.
