MAY 29: Imran Sonic Quartet at NBT

Earning a diploma in Performance Major from the National Academy of Arts, Imran Aiman is an upcoming alto saxophonist. During his school days he joined the St. John Cadet Corps Band, today he plays for Malaysian based groups such as Fieldplayers, Tilu and The Joan Jeseltone Band. He is distinguishable for his contemporary approach to music. He has an innate talent for composition and projects it onto the piano, and more notably, the saxophone.

MAY 30:  Kaya Live at Pisco Bar

Kaya started out as a jam. A couple of jam sessions, to be exact. Now they are one of the most acclaimed bands in town. Put together a bunch of music lovers and you’d get a solid group of friends who will jam together and ultimately, make music together. That was the case for Emmanuel Joseph, David Harding, Matthew Ezra, Michael Peris and Donald Omar, collectively known as Kaya.

MAY 30/31: Q Sound Live at NBT

Q Sound, also known as Marques Young, grew up surrounded by jazz records and church songs. In 2003, he began his studies at the Juilliard School under Joseph Alessi, Principal Trombone of the New York Philharmonic. In that time, Q Sound found continued success in solo competitions which led him to a position in the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.

 


Q Sound is also backed by an impressive list of past performances, namely for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as well as opening for Jose James, BabyFace and Hiatus Koyote with the band Bassment Syndicate.

MAY 30: Poolside Open Mic #91 ft Gabriel Lynch

Australian singer songwriter Gabriel Lynch has spent much of his adult life travelling and wowing audiences across Asia, Europe and his own home turf with his breathtaking live performances. With his powerful command of the stage, he can incite a pin-drop silence as quickly and effortlessly as he can instigate a soaring, cathartic singalong.  

 

 

He has shared festival lineups with the likes of Elbow, John Butler Trio, The Whitlams and Architecture in Helsinki and is as familiar playing to small coffee house audiences as he is crowded outdoor amphitheaters. Lynch now resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. In between tours and expanding upon his already extensive catalogue of studio releases, he composes music professionally for radio, film and television on behalf of Maveriq Studios.

Malaysian singer, guitarist and Youtube sensation, Talitha., rose to fame with her single okay which garnered more than 225,000 plays online. She has opened for The Summer State and continues making waves with her soulful music, following in the footsteps of her favourite YouTube artists Kina Grannis, Tyler Ward and Tori Kelly.

Having collaborated with over 30 local and international artists, it is without a doubt that Dennis is and will continue to be a highly treasured talent by the industry. Apart from her love for singing jazz and blue classics, DANI enjoys performing her own originals with spins on jazz classics. While she's been performing regularly, her unique voice and engaging originals has granted her invitations to perform at various festivals such as the IP Jazz Festival, JB International Arts Festival, and the Publika Jazz Festival.  Her efforts has also opened up collaborative doors for her to work with some of Malaysia's best like Dasha Logan, Michael Veerapen, Lewis Pragasam and International guitarist, Robin Banerjee, guitarist for the late Amy Winehouse. DANI was selected as a featured guest singer for Robin Banarjee's & Friends jazz ensemble at the Iskandar Puteri Jazz Festival 2018 and was also selected as one of the few local acts to perform at World Youth Jazz Festival 2019.

JUNE 4:  Rachel Guerzo Trio Live at NBT

Rachel Guerzo is a renowned Malaysian Jazz singer and a fluid pianist. She learned to play the piano from her late grandfather and pioneer musician, Alfonso Soliano, whom she credits as a major influence in her music career. Soliano was dubbed Malaysia's father of Jazz and formed RTM Orchestra, the first Malaysian orchestra which composed a slew of hits.
