Kenny Glasgow at Kyo KL

Kenny Glasgow at Kyo Kuala Lumpur

KYO KL brings you Kenny Glasgow (Art Department / No. 19 Music, CA) to the Ren room tonight.

Though the Canadian star has spent the last five years as the half of the acclaimed duo Art Department, functioning as a musical engineer, composer of both music and lyrics, and vocalist, he is now returning to his solo roots. Before he started touring the world, releasing influential full lengths, headlining major festivals and gracing the cover of taste making magazines with Jonny White, Kenny Glasgow already had a cult and loyal following dating back to the early nineties.

Glasgow first became immersed in the scene as a promoter, putting on illicit warehouse parties in his native Toronto before progressing to become resident at acid house mecca The Buzz and later the world famous Industry Nightclub. It was there that he picked up a sense of what worked dance floors, both in terms of DJing and production. Always putting these lessons to great use whether solo or with Art Department, his own emotive, tortured sounding and unique gravelly vocals have very much become his trademark.

As such his forthcoming LP and other musical projects will likely bare these hallmarks, as will the music he releases on the new label he is setting up with cohort Mr White, under the banner title of Social Experiment.

Also featuring for the night is EJ Missy and Obadius.

Baxx Xtra Hard goes Zany at Soju Sunway

Dj Zany Baxx Xtra Soju Sunway Kuala Lumpur

Hardstyle legend Zany debuts in Malaysia brought to you by the hardworking, underrated, Hardstylin' boys at the Baxx Xtra Hard HQ and sponsored by FWD. All the major Hardstyle parties in KL so far was part of their work and it just got bigger.

Raoul van Grinsven, otherwise known as Zany, is the definition of a Hardstyle legend. One of the original pioneers of the style, a member of the notorious Donkey Rollers, and an ever-present force pushing the genre through evolutionary trajectories - Zany was at the start and isn’t going anywhere. As the frontman of Fusion his back catalogue of hits is as extensive as it is impressive. Supreme classics like ‘Nothing Else Matters’, ‘Pure’ and ‘Widowmaker’ have been routinely added to with modern hits, such as ‘Execute’ and his most recent track ‘Free For All’ with Ruthless.

Furthermore, Zany has two studio albums to his name, the genre defining ‘The Fusion of Sound’, and the more recent ‘Planet Zany’. For well over a decade, Zany has been performing at the top of the scene - he has played at every major Dutch festival multiple times, and at a host of massive international events. Why? Quite simply, a Zany performance is guaranteed to get the party going. A combination of on stage energy, a DJ’s eye (or should that be ear?) for progression, and a classy mixing style has always been the foundation of his performing success and little has changed over the years.

Today, Zany is still busy in the studio creating the next Fusion hit, and continues to perform week in week out across the Netherlands and beyond. Never one to be limited by restrictive categorisations, he now seeks to share his love for hardstyle in a more expansive manner. That is, with a freestyle sensibility.

A slew of Malaysian hardstyle and hard trance/EDM exponents feature as well, including Bass Agents, Chukiess & Whackboi, Lissa Qash, Slash and Kyori.

Techno Sweatbox at Elysium

DJ Marco Lenzi Sweatbox Kuala Lumpur

Art Xtreme Media’s weekly Seatbox dedicates this edition to all things techno. Alongside residents Otherkind and Obadius, Sweatbox will also host the return of Edycted and a special guest DJ Marco Lenzi (Molecular Recordings, UK) .

Marco Lenzi was born in Livorno, Italy and raised in Rome, where as a teenager he got into clubbing, record collecting and mastered his DJ technique. Marco's love of electronic music started over 30 years ago after he inherited some records from his father, an electronic engineer for NASA. His early influences include K. Stokhoussen, Pierre Henry, G. Ligety and other producers from the 1960's, artistes who weren't afraid to experiment with new sounds and techniques. This is something that Marco keeps in line with his own production and DJ work, and with seamless mixing and the originality of his programming he soon developed his own unique style.

Marco moved to London in 1988 and got into the acid house music scene. He was at the heart of two of the best record stores in London – Silverfish and Eukatech. Marco, Nils & Hans Hess and Alex Oppido started the Silverfish Records store on the Charing Cross Road in the heart of London in the early 1990s. The store was an important part of the growth of the dance scene in the UK, and its reputation was built from the knowledge that they injected into it. After Silverfish, Marco, Nils and Hans opened the infamous Eukatech records in Covent Garden, which provided not only somewhere to listen to the latest tracks but also became known for releasing quality music and winning awards as best independent record label.

Marco’s passion for music led to the birth of Molecular Recordings in 1994, now one of the most respected cutting edge labels in the UK. On Molecular Marco releases his own material along with many records from artists like Anderson Noise, Chris Liebing, Colin Mc Bean (ex Advent), Danilo Vigorito, Holy Ghost, Inigo Kennedy, Kelly Hand, Oliver Ho and as well the successful anonymous xx series. Marco has also produced more than 50 records on labels including Molecular, Missile, Audio, Eukatech, Noise Music and Primate, just to name a few.

Marco is a techno veteran who has been producing, remixing and playing all over the world for the best part of 2 decades, taking his minimal and funky sound to the masses. The A-Z of countries around the world where Marco has performed: Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bosnia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Colombia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Kosovo, Macedonia, Malaysia, Mexico, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Siberia, Singapore, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, USA and Yugoslavia. In 2008, Marco was voted number 49 in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJ in the world.

Techno peppers his sets, and he now bravely labels himself a minimalist. "Sometimes with a trend, people are like sheep and follow it," he explains. "But I have been playing and producing minimal techno for a very long time. Minimal techno has been around for nearly 15 years. It's not a new thing." Indeed, it was the original minimal godfather Robert Hood who included Marco's 'Taboo' on his recent Fabric CD - testament to Lenzi's authenticity of touch if ever one was needed.

Marco is now concentrating on the relaunch of his Molecular label as well as spending more time in the studio, after taking a break looking after his 2 daughters. He is busy developing new sounds and styles, producing new releases for Molecular and various other labels, with an album project in the pipeline. Music will always be a part of his life
