Swordfish + Concubine at KLPAC

Kee Thuan Chye at KLPAC Kuala Lumpur

Kee Thuan Chye returns to the Malaysian stage as playwright-director after an absence of more than two decades. He now brings for the first time to Malaysia his play 'Swordfish + Concubine' in its original English version, realising a dream he has harboured since long before the play was judged one of the Top 5 in the International Playwriting Festival 2006 organised in the United Kingdom.

To be staged at KLPac's Pentas 1 until Sunday, the production aims to help raise funds for the family of Ooi Eow Jin, the former RTM Orchestra conductor, who is 78 and suffering from Alzheimer's and whose son recently underwent surgery to remove a brain tumour.

'Swordfish + Concubine' is an epic production based on the classic 'Sejarah Melayu'. Thuan Chye digs into the past to create a story about the present.

The story of ancient Singapura attacked by swordfish until it is saved by a boy, and of a young, smart and spirited concubine sentenced to death by impalement – this is made relevant to Malaysia today. Kee turns it into a lavish and fun-filled piece of theatre. The play is packed with drama, humour, music, movement, silat and, as they used to say in the old Hollywood heydays, “a cast of thousands”! Hahaha!

It incorporates gamelan music performed by the magnificent Rhythm in Bronze – and rap. Yes, rap! Hahaha!

Its dream cast comprises Malaysia’s best actors – Na’a Murad, Sandra Sodhy, Qahar Aqilah, Alfred Loh, Hana Nadira, Arief Hamizan, Amanda Ang, Bella Rahim, Gregory Sze, Iefiz Alaudin, Lam Ghooi Ket and 12-year-old Joel Timothy Low. In the play, they act, sing, dance and fight. Yes, fight!

Miserable Man at Ril’s

Miserable Man Kuala Lumpur

Miserable Man is a one man band project that started as an idea on a tiny Indonesian island. One man feeling Jamaican inside - getting older with a smile on his face, waking up in front of the azure sea, and sleeping under coconut trees - thought how nice it would be to play reggae oriented music for all the folks out there. Don't miss him Live at Ril's Bangsar this Friday 3rd November!

Evelyn Feroza Live at Le Noir KL

Evelyn Feroza singer Kuala Lumpur

Le Noir KL presents Evelyn Feroza on stage at Le Noir KL. Fondly known as “EVIE”, this feisty lass is barely 22 years of age and relatively fresh in the professional music scene. In 2011, she was brought in as a guest at the Red Rooster Reunion. This was where she caught the eye of popular guitarist Hillary Ang, who later hand-picked her to perform in the Konsert Petikan Lagenda 2012, where she rocked it out with him and other famed Malaysian guitarists Kid Search, Joe Wings and Man Kidal.

Soon after, she joined pub stalwarts Albert Sirimal and Badar Fawzy to perform at Souled Out (Ampang and Hartamas outlets). In 2013, Evie decided that she would be happier giving her all to music and left the hotel line to take up a one-year stint at TAPS Beer Bar.

Today, Evie performs with a number of accomplished musicians in the live entertainment circuit. Whether she is in a 2pc or 5pc line up, she continues to wow audiences with her inimitable style and stage presence. Her wide repertoire ranging from jazz standards to pop promises something for everyone’s musical palate.

Alex Calleja Live @ Crackhouse Comedy Club

Alex Calleja comedian in Kuala Lumpur

As seen on Comedy Central Asia's STAND-UP ASIA. finalist on Laugh Factory's Funniest Person in the World competition, Crackhouse Comedy Club are proud to bring you one of the rising stars to emerge from the grassroots comedy scene in Manila. Alex Calleja. Listening to Alex perform stand-up comedy, two things happen for sure: you always laugh and you never forget the first time you hear his jokes.

Most people also have the same thought: “Hmmm, why didn’t I think of that?” Well, even if you did think of it, you would have not crafted it into the incredible side-splitting joke that Alex did. He looks at every topic exhaustively until every comedic angle has been squeezed dry. No topic is safe. From the hardships of marriage, to hardships in living in Manila, to Zombies hardships (seriously), he finds what is funny and amplifies it with outrageous act outs and all out delivery. If there is any other penultimate headliner in Manila today, they pale in comparison to Alex Calleja.

Also featuring Gajen Nad.

Kaya Live at Pisco Bar

Kaya The band in Kuala Lumpur

Kaya the band loves electrifying audiences with their rock’n’roll show but this time they'll be switching things up with an acoustic set. And as Kaya never puts on the same show twice, you'll never hear them play the same old versions!

A post shared by Kaya (@kayaofficialmusic) on

Much like a live art-piece, their charisma onstage makes shows memorably entertaining - that is, if they're not bringing down the roof. Here's some wise advise from the band: put your dancing shoes on tight, you'll be dancing fo-sho!
