This Friday (March 8) is International Women’s day and also sees the release of the latest female-centric superhero movie, Captain Marvel. In honour of this, the iconic KLCC rooftop bar and restaurant, Marini’s on 57 has developed 4 Marvel female character inspired cocktails.
Launching this week (6 March 2019) is the Marvellicious and they will follow up with a new cocktail each Wednesday until the end of March. I was lucky to get a sneak preview and can confidently say, anyone with a love for mixed drinks is in for a real treat this month.
I was worried about the Marvellicious as it is made with 2 of my allergens - coconut and nuts but the bar staff were able to adapt it so that I could have a sip of this delicious concoction. Gin based, the Marvellicious is a refreshing mix of coconut cream, cucumber juice, lemon juice and orgeat syrup. Not only is it a smooth and tasty drink, there is an added touch of theatre in the presentation. The drink arrives in a jewel topped decanter inside a lantern. When it is then poured into the glass, the magic happens and it appears to steam and boil, thanks to dry ice in the glass.
Next up I was presented with a luminous green drink in a crystal whiskey tumbler - the She-Hulk (launching 13 March 2019). This was my favourite of the night as its Midori watermelon flavour was happily married to rum, lime and spice syrup. I am a fan of rum. I also love watermelon and lime, so this combination was always going to be a success for me. The added layer of the spice syrup hitting your palate after you have swallowed the fruity mix is divine and the Asam Boi garnish adds a little salty sour tang to really make your taste-buds sing. Marvellous.
The Scarlet Witch (launching 27 March 2019). looks like a prosecco cocktail, with the bubbles provided by the soda water. Its red hue and orange flower decoration make this a cocktail as pretty as it is tasty. The combination of gin, raspberry puree, lemon juice, honey and soda water creates a delicate but evenly balanced cocktail. The bubbles gently tickle your throat while the aroma and flavour put you firmly under their spell. Magical.
Finally, I got my hands on the Wakanda Foreva cocktail (launching 20 March 2019)., a brooding looking drink that really packs a punch. A tall glass with a purplish coloured drink, the Wakanda Foreva is made with tequila charcoal, raspberry puree, lemon juice and soda water. Presented with a flower petal perched on the edge of the glass, this drink is a beautiful tribute to Black Panther’s Queen Shuri. Delicious.
Make sure you don’t miss out on the chance to celebrate women this march with this selection of stunning cocktails. Why not sample some of their bar snacks while you are there? I can personally recommend the guacamole with rice chips and the Marini’s Rucola e Tartufo pizza, a thin crispy crust topped with fresh rucola leaves, tomato, cheese and a decadent sprinkling of shaved truffles. Bellissimo!
