Review : Soft Launch café is the perfect place to go if you want somewhere to have dessert after a heavy meal. The café may be a little hard to spot among the many neon signboards that dot the centre of Sri Petaling, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled for it. One useful tip is to look out for a Hair Stylist shop called ‘Jeff Lee’. Soft Launch is directly above it.
Although Soft Launch can get pretty crowded on the weekends, you’ll still be able to find a seat. However, if you happen to drop by on a week day, it will be quieter. The interior is pretty minimalist and simple. There’s a whole row of quaint little tables along one wall with concrete seats (and a whole lot of cushions to make it comfy). Additionally, if you want some fresh air, there’s a balcony area that’s open air. There are several tables here which are great if you’re feeling stuffy or want to smoke
.
Soft Launch shot to fame among young foodies because a picture of their strawberry waffle went viral. Indeed, their waffles are still their signature offering. Apart from strawberry, other sweet waffles include Mango and Banana Blueberry. I got their Banana Blueberry option because I felt like having some potassium in me that night. Haha.
Before we get to how it tasted, I’d like to highlight their ordering process. Basically, after you take a seat, the servers will hand you menus. Choose what you want and then proceed to the counter to order and pay. Your food and drinks will be served to you once they’re ready, so you don’t have to collect them. In this way, the café is semi-self service, which is really interesting.
Their menu features savoury dishes in addition to dessert options. However, I was here for the sweets tonight so I didn’t get to try any of their main meal offerings. I would have liked to try their Waffles with fried chicken and Big Breakfast Waffles. It would appear that you just can’t get away from waffles while you’re here. If waffles just aren't your thing, then you can also check out their rice bowls and pasta dishes too. For light bites, there are fries with a few types of toppings, including cheese or seaweed. There are also chicken tenders for you meat lovers.
Now, back to my Banana-Blueberry waffle; it was heavenly! It came full of whipped cream which wasn’t too sweet. And somehow, the waffle itself didn’t get soft or soggy from the insane amount of cream. It stayed crisp, and what I loved most about it was it wasn’t heavy or stodgy. The whipped cream actually made the whole waffle taste so much lighter.
Another dessert that I got to try was their soft serve. They have two constant flavours and several seasonal ones. I chose Chrysanthemum. You can have it in a cup or served with a waffle and toppings. I went with a simple soft serve in a cup style, and to my delight, it was so pretty! It came decorated with a flower (non-edible, I tried ) and was sprinkled with goji berries and osmanthus jelly. This was one dessert that made me feel healthy. I felt like I had my fill of vitamins for the day.
If you don’t want dessert, there’s coffee too. They even have their own speciality cold brew Ethiopian coffee, so give that a go. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I settled for their iced chocolate instead. Soft Launch made an evening out even sweeter for me, so I highly recommend hanging out here if you have a thing for waffles.
- Dessert prices range from RM15 to RM20++
