With the Covid -19 pandemic continuing, musicians are finding it increasingly difficult to perform due to various restrictions currently in place. So that in mind, AEW sessions are organising a one-off special online event titled AEW Sessions: Girl Power! Malaysian Acoustic Invasion! This exciting event forms part of The Peatix Online Event Festival which takes place on Sept 26, 2020 and features some of Malaysia’s upcoming female singer songwriter including Dani Komari, Jiwang and Ili Ruzanna.
1. Dani Komari
Dani Komari is a regular name at a few of Kuala Lumpur's jazz/blues/soul loving establishments and is someone we caught up with here at The City List towards the end of last year. Apart from her love for singing jazz and blues classics, she enjoys performing her own originals which puts a spin on classics jazz music.
While she's been performing regularly, her unique voice and engaging originals have granted her invitations to perform at various festivals. Her efforts have also opened up collaborative doors for her to work with a few of Malaysia's best musicians like Dasha Logan, Michael Veerapen, Lewis Pragasam and International guitarist, Robin Banerjee
2. Jiwang
A trio of sisters from Kuantan, Pahang, their instruments is the violin, keys and vocals. They are currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Jiwang debuted their showcase at Sofar Sounds Singapore in February 2019, and their debut Malaysian show was at The Bee the same year.
Think of them as a live acoustic jukebox playing Pop, R&B and Folk songs from the past. Their goal is to bring back nostalgic, romantic music in our own Jiwang, stripped-down renditions. However, they are also currently in the midst of recording their original songs.
3. Ili Ruzanna
Born and raised in Petaling Jaya, 25, year old singer songwriter Ili Ruzanna went on stage for the 1st time with her dad at 12 years old. Being self-taught playing the ukelele and piano, she started writing her first song at 20. A huge part of her influence in music is indie pop music.
She performed everywhere from corporate events to weddings, to local tv performance like Borak Kopitiam and Malaysia Hari Ini. She was always afraid to express herself through music, but not anymore. Her vision is to tell her own stories through her music and remind people that no one's really alone in a particular situation.
