JUMP and Planet Hollywood clubbing reunion on SEPT 17
IT’s all about clubbing reunions again and this time it’s the 90s and the early noughties that gets the focus with SEPTEMBER 17’s special “Blast from the Past” at Rock Bottom Bangsar, KL. The nostalgic KL nightlife clubbing spots that gets the focus here are The Jump, once located on Jalan Tun Razak, and Planet Hollywood, formerly located at KL Plaza (now Fahrenheit 88).
This coming reunion is the brainchild of one the original Jump DJs Dr Sam, who has been mulling over the idea for some time now.
“I am calling it The Jump & Planet Hollywood Class of The 90s Reunion Party 2017. It’s a blast from the past we are trying to create for one night, bringing clubbers back to the good old 90s by presenting the original cast members including DJs, staff, management, rap shows and more,” Dr Sam Nair said.
Dr Sam’s original DJing days stretch back to 1986, but having moved to Norway since 2005, he’s been back yearly to visit family and friends, mostly as he pointed out, former working colleagues at The Jump, Planet Hollywood and Wall Street (formerly on Jalan P. Ramlee next to KLCC), DJs and close friends.
All those meetings plus an invite from DJ Jazzie Jay to play at KL’s premium annual retrofest Retrosunsplash led to the idea for this special reunion.
“So for 2017 I got greedy and wanted to meet everybody I know from DJs, staff whom I’ve worked with, families and all the customers who used to patronize to club. It has been a challenge to organise this from Norway but with help from Anne Das, DJ Jason Martin, DJ John Dev, Fauzie, Sri Ram, Ceejay, Fadz, Mike Cubinar, DJ Sara and DJ Nicky Zulu I am able to pursue this crazy idea of mine,” he said.
Rock Bottom Bangsar on Sept 17 will be ringing out the clubbing sounds of the late 80s to the 90s (with a dash of the early millennium sounds) as popularised by the DJs who played these two clubs. The Jump stretched from 1993 to somewhere in 1998, while Planet Hollywood started in 2000 (lasting through to the mid 2000s) as, in essence, a franchise of the then famed Planet Hollywood restaurant and bar chain from the US.
The Jump DJs will be represented by Dr Sam Nair, DJ Midnight, DJ Ragga Ragu, DJ Brown, DJ Sara and DJ Nicky Zulu while the Planet Hollywood KL DJs will be Jason Martin and DJ Jay Okada. There will also be the flaring cocktail makers which will include Fadz and the crew. And there will be rap dancers too.
And of course, what would The Jump be without an appearance from “that DENTIST CHAIR”. (To be seen to be believed).
Meanwhile, charity will also be an important cause included for the reunion and all proceeds from the night will go to charity homes Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary, KL and Pusat Penjagaan Kanak Kanak, Orang Tua dan Terencat Akal, Semenyih.
