Warehouse Session 9 at Ril's 25 August 2018

Warehouse Sessions is back at RIL’s Bangsar but this time as a curated evening of independent wholesome indie goodness happening twice* a month on Saturdays.

Featuring for this Ninth Edition on 25 AUGUST 2018:

MARKIZA and PETER, who will be celebrating 25 years since they released their first album. Markiza & Peter Hassan Brown have been performing and recording since 1993 in London and Malaysia. Between them, they have released altogether 8 albums in the UK and Malaysia.

 

 

They are the nucleus of the band Soft Touch and are often joined by Wong Lip Kee who has been the band’s guitarist since 2004, and currently is helping with their latest recording project, a series of songs about different social issues: refugees, justice, human rights and the threat to the environment and vulnerable species, including “Ecopocalypse”, “Losing Nature”, the popular “Like a Polar Bear”, “Refugee” and “Choices”.

They shall be performing songs from their forthcoming mini-album to celebrate 25 years since they released the first album as "Passion" (Markiza & Peter) called “Open Secret” in 1993 (available to listen to and read about from www.lemang.com

Skies Are Red:  Formed in 2011, Skies Are Red is a rock band that is serious about sending a message via the universal medium of music. Besides writing about individual life experiences, their music touches on several important elements of the human experience such as love, spirituality, and freedom.

Ezra: Singer-songwriter currently based in Kuala Lumpur. He started composing his own songs about 4 years ago when he discovered writing music as a means to express the indescribable waves andpatters of this life we live in. Influenced greatly by the likes of post-grunge bands such as Switchfoot and the Foo Fighters, Ezra enjoys injecting the energy, passion, power and emotions of rock music into his own tunes, which he hopes will inspire listeners to believe in a better world.

Relent: Kuala Lumpur based rock band whose sonic signature is a distinct cross breed of powerpop, pop-punk and alternative rock. Not only are they known for their electrifying sets on stage, emotionally passionate acoustic sessions, sincere lyrics and positively-fueled music but they are also a band with a cause that fights againstmodern day slavery and injustice. Since their formation Relent have played in different cities in Malaysia as well as countries such as New Zealand, the Philippines, South Africa, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates. To date, Relent have released 2 EPs, the “Acoustic Previews” and “More To Life”, with songs such as “You Still Love” and “Can Anybody Save Me?” will definitely get you hooked to RELENT’s unique sound. In August 2012, their hit track “Looking For A Savior” was voted the #1 song in the Hitz.fm Malaysian English Top 10 Music (MET 10) as well as the Hitz.fm Borneo English Top 10 Music (BET 10) charts.

Open Mic Malaysia is the brainchild of Shaneil Devaser, frontman of The Endleaves. Established in 2012 and currently operating in Sabah, the Klang Valley and Penang, Open Mic Malaysia aims to create sustainable avenues for bedroom musicians, singer-songwriters and professional musicians to share their music and experiences with each other and the public, over evenings of wholesome indie goodness. In partnership with Ian Tai of The Propositions, Jaime Gunter of Volatile and Boy Sunny of Meteor Crates, Open Mic Malaysia aims to… Make Malaysia Great (for indie music) Again.
