10 Lesser Known Food Trucks to Check Out in the Klang Valley
The food truck culture has really taken off in recent years, especially across the Klang Valley, It’s true that Malaysians have been selling food and groceries from trucks for decades. However, these days, the contemporary food truck culture is usually dedicated to modern interpretations of traditional offerings and western cuisine.
When they first started out, food trucks operated alone in isolated areas. Now, there are several food truck parks across the Klang Valley where they congregate. One of the largest ones is Tapak Urban Street Dining at Persiaran Hampshire opposite KLCC.
For all you food truck enthusiasts, here are some trucks that don’t often get mentioned online. They’re equally delicious and could do with some love.
1. Ken’s Food Truck
Ken’s Food Truck can be found around the Kota Kemuning area serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They feature gourmet seafood as part of their appetizers, including coconut shrimp and calamari rings.
For main meals, there are rice and pasta sets, such as the Signature Roasted Chicken with Aglio Olio pasta and Jumbo Chicken sausage with creamy cheese pasta. They move around a lot, so the best way to locate them is to keep up with their social media pages.

2. MY Gỏi Cuốn Food Truck
Gỏi Cuốn is the Vietnamese word meaning spring rolls, and this food truck specializes in serving halal Vietnamese cuisine. Their best sellers are of course their fresh spring rolls that feature huge prawns and an authentic dipping sauce.
Other specialities here include Goi Xoi or mango salad, Bun Tom vermicelli in soup with shrimp and Banh Xeo or Vietnamese crepe omelette. My Goi Cuan operates every Saturday at Tapak Urban Street Dining at Ampang near KLCC.

3. Burger Giler Power
If you’re living in and around Taman Melawati, you can drop by Burger Giler Power. They serve the juiciest beef burgers in the area, and artisanal brewed coffee by Khatulistiwah. The must-try here is, of course, their Signature Cheese Burger and their Cajun Chicken Burger.
They’ve often got other meals as well, like the Australian Farmhouse pasta and Mum’s Tuna Mushroom Pasta. For some sides, you can try their freshly fried crispy mushroom fries. On the weekends, they sometimes make a stop at Tapak Urban Street Dining at Ampang, so check their Facebook for updates.

4. Dapur Terbang Foodtruck
Dapur Terbang, which literally translates to ‘Flying Kitchen’ is a food truck that serves Halal western food. Some of their best sellers include the Lamb Chop, Grilled Chicken and Spaghetti Bolognaise.
Their meats come with fries and coleslaw so you don’t have to worry about not getting any vegetables. They often attend special pop-up events which are announced on their FB page.

5. Matrock Ayam Goreng Kunyit
When translated, the name of this food truck sounds something like ‘Rocker Dude’s Turmeric Fried Chicken’ and that’s exactly what they serve. Piping hot turmeric chicken straight from the fryer is served on piping hot steamed rice.
The chicken is fried with onions, long beans and some carrot, so it’s really a full meal. Apart from Turmeric Chicken, there’s squid, beef and prawns too.

6. Babooor
Baboor brings Middle –eastern inspired sandwiches and wraps to you in a fuss-free package. Their best sellers are their Crispy Honey Chicken Panini, Fajita Wrap and Club Sandwich.
The truck can be found on Saturdays at the Tapak site in front of Amcorp Mall, PJ and Sundays at the Tapak site near KLCC. If you fancy less carbohydrate in your meal, their honey grilled chicken comes in a salad bowl version too.

7. Babarittos Delight
If you’re craving some hearty Mexican fare, Babarittos is your next stop if you’re down at Tapak in Ampang. They’ve got some great Burritos, Quesadillas, Nachos Bolognese and Homemade Burgers. Their signature Burritos come with three types of filling choices, namely spicy lamb, black pepper beef and grilled chicken.

8. Black Kitchen
Black Kitchen is actually named after the colour of their truck and despite the dodgy name, actually serves up some really great Indonesian inspired food.
Their menu changes from time to time, but some signature items in their menu include the Ayam Penyet, Pecel Lele, Bakso and Soft Shell Crab burger.

9. Summer Big Cup
After all that delicious food, you’ll need something refreshing to wash it all down. This is where Summer Big Cup comes in. They offer several types of mocktails and soda creations that are bright, sweet and light.
For example, there’s the Ocean Soda Herbs with preserved plums, lemon and lime wedges, as well as mint. Their signature drink is, of course, the Unicorn, a frappucino that’s all pink, purple and adorable.

10. Mamamia Café
Mamamia Café food truck specializes in Chinese Muslim food. Here you’ll find fried boxing chicken and chicken wings done right, smothered with some delicious garlic and black pepper sauce. Other not-to-miss creations include the buttermilk chicken and salted egg squid. Each set comes with either fries of rice.
