1Hundred Goldie at Le Noir 15 February 2018

Fresh off his first live UK Tour with the National Heritage Orchestra in support of his new album “The Journey Man”, and the recent release of his memoirs “All Things Remembered” iconic UK drum’n’bass and urban rave pioneer GOLDIE is making a return to our shores for a special one night appearance at Le Noir KL Club Lounge Thursday 15 FEBRUARY 2018.

After more than three decades in the business, Goldie’s album ‘The Journey Man’, was released on 16th June 2017, via Cooking Vinyl and Goldie’s own record label, Metalheadz. The album comprises two parts, 16 brand new tracks in total, all written and produced by the MOBO Award-winning songwriter, DJ, producer, visual artist and actor Goldie (MBE).

His memoirs “All Things Remembered” is a whirlwind, charged and unsparingly candid memoir from the godfather of urban rave; the story of the man born Clifford J. Price in Walsall, West Midlands in 1965, who started out as jungle’s most streetwise ambassador and went on to collect an MBE from Buckingham Palace.

But Goldie’s uncensored, wise and hard-hitting memoir is far more than just the story of the house-training of drum’n’bass. As one of Britain’s most influential DJs, producers and record-label owners, Goldie’s contributions to the UK rave scene in the 1990s with Metalheadz provided the frenetic blueprint for the UK’s defining genres in the twenty-first century, dubstep and grime. This gonzo memoir, told in 52 chapters (one for each of Goldie’s 52 years), is a remix of an extraordinary life that has been lived as a vertiginous thrill-ride: from the darkest depths of the West Midlands care-home system to the snowiest uplands of coke-crazed international celebrity.

It is an explosive story of abuse, revenge, graffiti, breakdancing, gold teeth, sawn-off shotguns, car crashes, hot yoga, absent fatherhood, and redemption through reality TV – all told in the relentlessly charismatic register of the man himself.

Goldie is a total original, a multi-talented shapeshifter, who’s sold more than 3 million records worldwide. Against all odds, and despite a traumatic childhood, he succeeded in unleashing his boundless creativity from a very young age. He transformed an underground British sound into a mainstream international movement with the evolution of drum’n’bass, collaborating along the way with major pop icons.

In 1986 Goldie was immersed in the subway art and hip hop culture of New York. He worked on a small stall selling ‘grills’; the gold teeth that have become synonymous with the man today.

After five years Goldie returned to the UK to live in London. It was here that he discovered ‘Rage’ one of the biggest club nights in London. Seeing Fabio and Grooverider playing there transformed things for Goldie, with the genesis of a game changing musical career. He got the taste of ‘Jungle’ and its energy and wanted more. True to form he put himself in the driving seat and created the incredible and hauntingly dark tune, ‘Terminator’ in 1992,

In 1994 as Goldie oversaw the birth and growth of his drum’n’bass label Metalheadz, he found time to craft a debut album, which sold 250,000 copies. This epic creation, containing a 21 minute symphonic track is just as it is named; ‘Timeless’.

It was around this time that the far-famed ‘Metalheadz Sunday Sessions’ club night was launched, which achieved legendary status at London’s Blue Note club. The Metalheadz night was a party that will go down in history as one of drum & bass’ most important, it is frequently cited by the genre’s luminaries in spreading the sound worldwide.

Goldie has also mixed the Ministry of Sound’s ‘Masterpiece’ series, which saw the artist curate a three-disc journey through his own influences and personal favourites.

Constantly evolving and reinventing himself Goldie’s life weaves many tales of urban blight and spiritual faith. It is with art though, be it through the medium of paint, music or acting Goldie has broken the chains of limitations. He has learnt that the dark and difficult are as much needed as the light and easy, by allowing all of life’s colours to penetrate him he is more integrated and whole.

This special night will see support from Le Noir resident DJ NESH together with Fatim and XA.
