The award-winning Cabaret Series: Golden Melody returns with a never-done-before fourth edition brought to you by klpac and The Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat from 7 to 10 December 2023 at klpac’s Pentas 1.
Still going strong since 2020, it is no surprise that this series is a favourite among Cantopop fans in Kuala Lumpur. The Golden Melody troupe is known for performing hits by Hong Kong superstars that many may not have the chance to hear live these days with a good dose of nostalgia and feel-good factor thrown in. It certainly has the seal of approval by the who’s who in the music industry when its third edition won Best Musical Direction at the 18th BOH Cameronian Arts Awards.
Many of us grew up watching TVB staples and Hong Kong movies before Netflix and even Astro came about, a time when Hong Kong cinema dominated the world. Now, behind each drama and film are some of the most iconic soundtracks created.
Golden Melody 4 brings you a not-to-be-missed compilation of music from action-packed thrillers like “Police Story” with its epic police chase and nerve-wrecking stunts and the full suspense “Infernal Affairs”, classic comedies like “Aces Go Places” to other classics like “Triumph in the Skies” and the nostalgic “I Have a Date with Spring” originally performed by some of Hong Kong’s greatest names in the entertainment industry such as Sam Hui, Alan Tam, Eason Chan, Maria Cordero, Hacken Lee, Anita Mui, Leslie Cheung and more.
Also part of the line-up is the music biopic of hit ‘70s band The Wynners “House of the Rising Sons” and “Beyond’s Diary”.
Once again directed by Ian Chow, Cabaret Series: Golden Melody 4 features familiar faces and voices from its past editions – Andrew Lim (keyboard / vocalist), Dickson Chai (guitar / vocalist), Jacqueline Teng (keyboard / vocalist / Music Director), MayJune Tan (vocalist), Ruby Yap (vocalist), Tan Li Yang (vocalist), Toh Shir Ling (kyeboard / vocalist) backed by percussionist Alex Lee, bassist Timothy Voo and electric guitarist Daniel Lee.
