TARAKUCHA big band with retro Malay twist, is back for year-end celebration at Bobo Kuala Lumpur

TARAKUCHA, the “terrer-menerrer” big band with a retro Malay twist, is back for a year-end celebration between 27-31 December at Bobo Kuala Lumpur, the intimate restaurant and performance lounge on Jalan Bangkung in Bangsar, KL.

Entitled Tarakucha Boom!, the show features creator and veteran Malaysian singer Sean Ghazi alongside the sultry-voiced songstress, Ida Mariana and a 12-piece big band led by Musical Director Nish Tham in a newly curated show that takes on classic songs from iconic entertainers of yesteryear; P. Ramlee, Jimmy Boyle, Anita Sarawak, Saloma to name just a few.

Beginning in 2016 with a nine-piece ensemble literally spilling off the tiny stage upstairs at Bobo Kuala Lumpur, what started as a wild experiment with Sean’s love of the vintage Malay songbook and the desire to bring back the big band sound, has resulted in an act that never fails to bring audiences to their feet and dancing in the aisles by the end of the encores.

By grabbing the chance to showcase their magic at every juncture including repeat performances at Bobo KL (where Sean is also Artistic Director), invitations for corporate functions in town, opportunities to perform outdoors at RIUH in the City, and out of town invitations, Sean and his team of home-grown musicians and singers have been given ample opportunity to fine-tune material that not only pays homage to the great ‘Malaysian Songbook’ but also includes contemporary hits and several originals – written by Sean and his writing partner Izlyn Ramli – in its repertoire.

BOBO KL: 65-1, Jalan Bangkung, Bangsar, KL
