Bobo Kuala Lumpur Restaurant and Show Review

Bobo Kuala Lumpur Restaurant and Show Review

What better way to spend a Saturday night than having a delicious dinner, drinks and a cabaretesque show. Finding such an event in KL is not easy, but at BOBO KL on the edge of Bangsar in Taman Bandaraya, this is the norm.

My guest and I arrived around 8 pm and I sipped on a glass of one of their house reds, a Domaines Barons de Rothschild Légende Cabernet Sauvignon while my companion drank a Hendricks gin and tonic.

 Crispy Cauliflower Tempura

Looking at the menu, I was delighted to see a few vegetarian options. For appetisers I was spoiled for choice with Arancini, Polenta Fries, Crispy Cauliflower Tempura, 2 salads and a mushroom soup all being suitable for my non-meat eating ways. I chose the arancini and my date opted for the cauliflower tempura.

 Arancini

The arancini, 2 balls of creamy cheesy risotto wrapped in crispy polenta crumb on a marinara sauce garnished with wilted spinach, truffle oil, balsamic vinegar and edible flowers, was a tasty start to the meal. I could not resist stealing some of the cauliflower tempura and was gifted the salad garnish and some of the Marie Rose sauce to dip. I am not a fan of Marie Rose sauce as it brings back memories of the early 80’s prawn cocktails of my childhood but this worked well with the delightfully flavoured crisp cauliflower.

 Seafood Mee Mamak

For our main courses, my co-eater ordered Bobo’s Seafood Mee Mamak and I ordered the Risotto Stuffed Baby Peppers. The big bowl of noodles had plenty of seafood and was thoroughly enjoyed by my friend who felt it was a modern twist on traditional Malay cooking. My stuffed peppers were full of the creamy risotto also found in the arancini and came in a truffle cream sauce with rocket and flowers dressing it. Nicely presented and full of flavour, it was a satisfying and comforting eat.

 Eiling Lim Pandan Predator cocktail

To round off our consumption, my companion chose to continue his gin drinking with Eiling Lim Pandan Predator cocktail. This gin is one of a range of Asian flavoured gins on the shelf at Bobo and his satisfied grin said it all. I opted for another glass of red.

When we were happily sated, it was time for the show. Set up like a cabaret, the Bobo Piano Lounge was sold out for the Bobo Nose variety show. With comedians, spoken word performances, musical performances and a drag show, it was a night that lived up to its promise of variety. The venue is the perfect setting for a show with its industrial chic and New York comedy club vibe. Bobo KL host a wide range of shows weekly, so make sure to keep in the loop here on the city list and don’t miss a chance to be entertained while you eat.
