Malaysia’s Trinidad Cigar Company will be hosting the Cigar Smoking World Championship (CSWC) Kuala Lumpur qualification event at Chime, Sheraton Petaling Jaya, on Saturday 15 August.
The CSWC challenges competitors to smoke the Rocky Patel Mareva, a mareva sized-cigar (42 parts of an inch ring gauge x 5 1/8 inches in length), for the longest period of time. The cigar must stay lit the entire time and once the flame goes out, so too does the competitor’s chances of victory.
Founded by Croatian Marko Bilic, CSWC features over 35 qualification rounds in cities around the world and culminates with a grand final in Split, Croatia in September. Due to Covid-19, the competition moved online via Zoom, however, the Malaysian qualifying event will be the first live qualifying event since March. Due to travel restrictions founder, Marko Bilic is unable to attend, however, Samuel Spurr, Cigar Journal’s Asia-Pacific Editor will host and judge the competition.
“It is an honour to once again bring the Cigar Smoking World Championship to Kuala Lumpur,” said Dato’ Indera Naresh Mohan, CEO of Malaysian cigar distributor and retailer Trinidad Cigar Company. “There are tremendous prizes up for grabs and the event is a celebration of cigar culture. It is a great spectacle so I invite those who are not participating to come and watch the event.”
“It is fantastic that Kuala Lumpur can host the first live qualifying event since March this year and this shows how the event inspires people to participate. I would love to be there, but will be watching online and saying hello,” said Marko Bilic. “The Rocky Patel Mareva has been especially created by Rocky Patel Cigars for the CSWC and It will be great to get Malaysian’s feedback on this new blend.”
