City ROARS! Indie Festival returns after a 2-year hiatus

City ROARS! Festival, the annual indie festival first conceived in 2019 bringing Asian artists onto one platform has confirmed its full 2022 line-up and finds Malaysian indie bands Sweetass, Lunadira, Arvan, Babychair and The Fatalis joining the bill, alongside previously confirmed Dirgahayu, Hacktick!, Nice Stupid Playground, Seven Collar T-Shirt and Shelhiel. This year’s City ROARS! The Festival will take place at Zepp Kuala Lumpur, on 28 May 2022 from 3 pm to 11 pm. Set in Kuala Lumpur's city centre, this state-of-the-art concert hall will become a new cultural hub for music and entertainment. It was revealed that Zepp Kuala Lumpur will be a part of the Bukit Bintang City Centre (BBCC) development, making it the 11th event hall for the Zepp Hall Network – a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc.

The network already has nine other outlets around Japan and another one in Taiwan called Zepp New Taipei. The upcoming 6,500 sq metres hall will house eight VIP boxes with private lounges and seating areas. The 2,500-capacity event space also offers the same top-notch facilities including high-quality pre-installed lighting and audio equipment.

While live-streaming has been gaining popularity, no overseas hybrid event has been done until now.

The Festival intends to co-organise the first-ever cross-border hybrid event, including both physical and live stream performances by Malaysian and Taiwanese, as well as Japanese and South East Asian artists, with its Taiwanese partner – Emerge Music and Zepp New Taipei.

The Taiwanese line-up will feature award-winning artiste Chih Siou, No-Nonsense Collective, Nigh Keepers, KST, WINNI & Onsen Tamago, Icy Ball among others. The live performance will be held concurrently at Zepp New Taipei.

The eight-hour event will provide live audiences and online viewers (via web-conferencing platform Gather Town) with both real-life and immersive experiences.
