Swerve at Drop KL for Grand Launch 11 August 2018 brings you a taste of the original Drop Hong Kong with Drop Hong Kong residents and friends Ivan Sit and Abel Rogers hitting our shores for a special night of house music, alongside our Da Funkie Junkie.
Born and raised in Hong Kong Ivan Sit has been a DJ since 1996 in his hometown, holding residencies in the clubs KEE Club, Drop and Landmark Mandarin Hotel – Mo Bar. He is notably one of Hong Kong’s top talents and is highly sought after to play for exclusive special events for which he has played for brand names like Nike, Mercedes, Dior, Fendi, NOKIA and Dunhill to name but a few.
His wide variety of styles ranges from deep house, nu-disco, club jazz, broken beat, electronica, deep funk, Motown soul, 70s disco 80s grooves, Cuban Latino Brazilian Afro beats, northern soul, rare grooves to old school electro boogie qualifying him to be highly knowledgeable and well cultured as a DJ. As well as the ability to play in a different variety of styles, he is also known for his collaborations with live musicians, performing with percussionists, vocalists, saxophonists and even rappers.
He sites Gilles Peterson, Francois K, Louie Vega, Kenny Dope, Kerri Chandler, Dennis Ferrer, DJ Harvey, David Mancuso, Norman Jay, Joey Negro and Dimitri From Paris as his favourite DJs/producers and has had the good fortune to have supported Norman Jay, Louie Vega, Greg Wilson, Joey Negro, John Morales and DFP in the past.
Abel Rogers is a virtuose of the turntables, first stepping up to the decks in 1998, while also finding the time to work for the last 8 years with the legendary brand “Technics” (makers of the iconic SL1200 series turntables) Fascinated by African American soul music, Abel advocates music which is particular in its genre and could be considered underground. It is a mix of Deep House and Soulful with hints of Disco and Funk.
The former resident of RANCHO Club (Club of the mythical French Atlantic coast) and for respected French label United Music Records (label/events/booking agency), Abel developed his technique and style. His discernment, his love of music and his resoluteness, gains him recognition from musical greats as he mixes in Mexico, Miami, Paris, New York and across the world alongside renowned DJs such as Quentin Harris, Mr.V, Yass, Copyright, DJ Deep, Franck Roger, Claude Monnet, Jay Sebag (singer Martin Solveig).
Today, as resident DJ at ARMANI / PRIVE Hong Kong for the Aqua group, Abel continues his journey where his goal is to share his music in harmony with his longtime fans and newcomers alike. To top up these many assets, he is also the official headphone designer and manufacturer for Back to Fundamentals (Claude Monnet’s successful new label) and the video designer and editor for the Aqua Group.
Pioneer of soul, funk, jazz and disco in the dance music context in Malaysia, Da Funkie Junkie is also Asia’s main ambassador and master of disco, garage and deep soulful house. He has DJed all around the world playing at some of the best clubs. He has also hosted an award-winning, critically acclaimed international dance music radio show for many years.
Malaysia’s First Modern American dining experience and rooftop bar Drop KL opened recently at The Terraces, TREC Kuala Lumpur.
