After nearly a decade of fronting the critically acclaimed rock band Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men, singer-songwriter Billie Blue Blackstone is preparing to take a bold step forward — launching her solo career with a heartfelt new single, Persimmon Tree, and a four-stop tour across Japan this May.
Formed in 2015, Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men made waves with their debut album Find Gold (2018), even embarking on an Indian tour that caught the attention of Rolling Stone India.
Now, Billie Blue is entering a new chapter, one that is as personal as it is artistic. Persimmon Tree, set for release on May 18, draws inspiration from Billie’s own childhood in Japan, where she would often climb the persimmon tree in her garden. The song is a nostalgic ode to innocence, rooted in memory, place, and longing.
To support her upcoming Japan tour, a fundraising concert titled “The Road to Japan” will take place at Merdekarya, Petaling Jaya, on April 26, 2025. The gig is co-organised by Billie Blue and Sid Menon.
Sid Menon is a key figure in Malaysia’s indie music scene. He is known for his work as a music manager, event organiser, and the founder of Sid Menon Presents. Through events like Syok Rock and Sonic Circus, he has played a vital role in spotlighting emerging talent while nurturing a thriving live music culture.
The fundraiser will feature Billie performing live alongside other beloved acts, including:
Kasih. After almost four years away from the stage, Kasih returns with her signature blend of raw, lo-fi indie pop. As the indie scene’s darling, she has navigated roles as a pop star, critic, curator, fangirl, and muse, captivating audiences with her unique voice and hearfelt storytelling. This marks her first live performance in nearly four years, promising an emotionally charged, intimate experience.
Hawa. Hawa is the raw, grunge-tinged solo project of Eff Hakim, formerly of synth-pop duo Pastel Lite. Blending elements of 90s alt-rock and riot grrrl energy, her music is emotionally charged and unapologetically personal. With tracks like Aku Dah Mati and Mayat Hidup, Hawa explores themes of rage, rebirth, and emotional release.
In addition to the concert, Billie will launch a crowdfunding campaign and exclusive merch line to support her Japan tour, with more details to be announced soon.
