Good Vibes Festival 2019 announces Yuna as festival headliner, joining Rae Sremmurd, Daniel Caesar, Mura Masa and more
Malaysian-made music festival, Good Vibes Festival happening this 20 - 21 July 2019 at The Ranch at Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands announced its final line up, rounding up the list of acts set to perform that weekend.
Joining the ranks of the stellar international artists are Yuna (Crush, Rescue) the Malaysian R&B and indie-pop heartthrob who gained worldwide recognition when her track Rocket garnered raving reviews from Billboard, 88rising’s Joji (SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK, YEAH RIGHT) — the first Asian-born artist to climb to No. 1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart with his album Ballads 1, and BAYNK (Come Home, What You Need) — a Kiwi engineering graduate turned HypeMachine-charting producer and multi-instrumentalist.
In conjunction with the upcoming release of her new album Rouge, #GVF2019 celebrates the triumphant homecoming with Yuna as the festival headliner, making this the first Good Vibes Festival to conclude with a Malaysian-born act. Yuna propelled to fame in the international music scene when her album Chapters placed 7th on Billboard’s Critics’ Picks for Best R&B Album in 2016.
The second day of the festival will see the debut collaboration of Good Vibes Festival and London’s own independent music platform and cultural curator, Boiler Room with an exclusive presentation at the newly revamped Electric Fields that also celebrates the first time Boiler Room hits Malaysian shores. In line with their passion to connect club culture to the wider world, on screen and in real life though parties, film, and video, the performances will be recorded and broadcast on boilerroom.tv under Boiler Room x Good Vibes Festival.
This year's festival will also feature a showcase by local music collective, Hoax Vision in conjunction with their 5th year anniversary. The collective boasts of 27 talented rappers, singers, DJs, producers, photographers, videographers, artists and designers, and will be presenting Orang Malaya, Ichu, Dato’ Maw, Cønfucius, Shelhiel, and ZSYIA at the Electric Fields stage.
Rounding up the local acts are SonaOne (No More, OBVIOUS), a French-Malaysian rapper best known for his collaboration with Joe Flizzow on Havoc, Kugiran Masdo (Bunga, Bercanda Di Malam Indah), a 60s pop-inspired band whose music has been specifically composed to suit local tastes, experimental pop band Lust (U I Adore, Desire), LapSap, the pioneer DJ duo presenting a day-glo mash of New York and London micro-clubs mixed through a Tokyo filter, R&B/hip hop DJ Aku Ash, Bad Habits — Kuala Lumpur’s newest indie-rock-anything-goes collaboration by Bunga (Twilight Actiongirl) and Robotron 5000 (Indiego, DANGERDISKO), and Lil Asian Thiccie. In addition to the artistes already announced, festival goers can also expect performances throughout the festival to be jam packed with surprise local guest artists over the weekend.
“This year’s lineup promises to be the most inclusive and star-studded yet! With the addition of the Electric Fields, we’re able to bring more artists from different genres together in what is arguably our biggest and best lineup to date,” said Ben Law, Founder and Director of Future Sound Asia.
