It is a return visit to Kuala Lumpur for The Greg Lyons Trio on the 16 & 17th March. This brilliant and explorative modern jazz ensemble led by the pioneering British saxophonist Greg Lyons currently based out of Singapore are due to perform live at Bobo KL.
Greg Lyons, who developed his musical style and profile in the crucible of the 1980s London jazz scene, has become well known in the South East Asian region since he moved here some 25 years ago for his groundbreaking ensembles, teaching, and his mentorship program Groove Works in Malaysia and Singapore, while also performing with many of the region's major jazz and popular icons, as well as recording/releasing a few CDs.
He continues to become known to an ever-increasing network of listeners for a commitment to making original music of an eclectic nature combining elements of his whole musical evolution - which includes representations of jazz, classical, funk, rock, pop, Brazilian, Afro-Cuban, avant-garde, folk and lots more.
The other two-thirds of the group is formed by Erik Hargrove (USA) on drums and Eivind Lødemel (Norway) on piano. Hargrove brings his monster funk chops - honed in the bands of James Brown and Bootsy Collins - to the mix, while also contributing his immense aesthetic for the traditions of jazz, and the nuances of a global musical language. Lødemel glues the ensemble together with his deep fusion of European melodicism, earthy groove, and jazz spontaneity.
The trio will perform two sets each night starting at 9.30pm.
