Way back in March 2020, before the Movement Control Order was announced in Malaysia, we were lucky enough to be able to cover Hotel Maya’s preview of their Hari Raya buffet. It was a sumptuous spread, heavily influenced by themes of home and traditional village life.
However, with the MCO in place, the buffet was shelved indefinitely. In its place, Hotel Maya has launched a delivery service with a traditional kampung cuisine inspired menu.
Throughout this Ramadan and Hari Raya, Hotel Maya will be delivering meals to your doorstep, and their Hari Raya menu is nostalgically reminiscent of hometown favourites that are quintessential to this festive season. Called ‘Simfoni Hari Raya’, this delivery run's up until June 22nd 2020.
The Hari Raya set menu is a customizable menu designed for two persons and priced at RM60. Any additional serving will be charged at RM20 each. The set consists of 6 items; one beef dish, one chicken, one vegetable, a soup, rice and dessert. Each dish has about 3-4 selections you can choose from. For example, the beef dishes available are daging kurma, daging kerutup and daging rendang. For chicken, there’s ayam masak merah, ayam masak kicap berkuah and ayam rendang. All sets come with complimentary rempeyek and dodol.
If you’re ordering a single serving, you don’t have to worry because they have an a la carte menu too. There’s lemang with rendang chicken (RM20), nasi impit with kuah kacang ( RM 12) and best of all, satay fresh from the grill at RM 22 for half a dozen and RM 32 for one dozen sticks of beef or chicken satay, served with nasi impit and spicy peanut sauce.
Orders can be made from 11 am - 5 pm daily, on hotelmayakl.beepit.com. For every order you make, you’ll get a cashback of 10% on your next order too. Free delivery is available for orders above RM60 within a 5km radius and above RM80 for a 10km radius. Delivery for their Hari Raya menu runs until June 22nd 2020. You can also arrange for pick up at the hotel itself.
Hotel Maya was generous enough to let us have a sample of their ramada delivery service, so we ordered the Nasi Tomato and Ayam Masak Merah set, vegan broccoli with tou kan set and a side of chickpea with sweet corn with feta cheese salad.
Any order that you make comes with complimentary sweet dates, so we really must thank Hotel Maya for all these little highlights that sweeten the experience. One of the more interesting aspects of the delivery was how the salad was packed, in colourful layers. The dressing, croutons and what appeared to be dried fish or meaty flakes were packed separately. The way the salad was packaged really made mealtime more fun.
Another highlight had to be the broccoli and tau kan set, with white rice. This really reminded us of the type of braised taukan or tofu skin and broccoli dish served at wedding dinners. It really did have that feeling of luxury and class, all filtered down to one dish. Finally, the ayam masak merah set was really well prepared, with an authentic taste of home that everyone craves at this time.
This year, Hari Raya will be celebrated rather differently, so if you want to give yourself a treat but can’t attend an iftar buffet, getting hotel treats delivered to your doorstep will be the next best thing.
