The Dimension collaboration which returns at Jiro KL on the 23rd February between chief resident DJ Alan Tand and Malaysian progressive legend Terence C has seen the two DJs feature on decks a few times in Jiro KL since June 2017.
A shared taste through their music is the basis of the collaboration, which will see its FOURTH Edition this Friday at Jiro KL.
“Well the whole idea was just to take the crowd from one end to the other end thru the music that Alan and I play, which consists of deep house, tech house, techno, progressive house, basically the different forms of electronic music,” says Terence C.
“We were looking for a name that takes people from one end to another (musically), almost like a journey and then decided to land on the name Dimension.”
One of the steadiest hands in the business, Terence C is one of Malaysia’s hidden gems. A resident DJ in KL clubs for 20 years now, he has warmed up audiences for practically every A-List DJ you can name, a roll call that reads like a history lesson in electronic music that includes David Morales, Fatboy Slim, Pete Tong, Chicane, Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Carl Cox, Nic Fanciulli and Paul van Dyk, with many visiting stars requesting that Terence opens for them.
To his loyal fans, Terence C is known as the Malaysian John Digweed – a longtime hero to Terence – both for his technical ability, his depth of knowledge of dance music that spans both time and genres and in his ability to program thrilling sets to suit every occasion at the drop of a hat. From deep house, tech house and techno, nothing fazes this industry professional.
Terence C has now emerged from the shadows to concentrate on his production work – with a raft of releases scheduled– and increasing his visibility in Asia. And with a reputation as Malaysia’s hardest-working DJ he looks poised to achieve it.
Originally hailing from the Indonesian town of Goranto, on the Northern coast of the island of Sulawesi, Alan Tand is a forward thinking DJ with the desire to learn and try new stuff; playing dance music genres spanning deep and tech house and techno.
Alan Tand started DJing in 2006 in his home town. He spent the next seven years being a prominent DJ in his birth place, before he was trusted with a residency at Quality Hotel – Gorontalo I in 2013. Along the way, he also won several DJ competitions, which pushed him to step up his game and make a move to be a DJ in Indonesia’s capital Jakarta.
Before holding any residency in the capital, he has seen playing as a guest DJ in numerous clubs in Jakarta such as Stadium, Prive, Illigals, Exodus, 999, Nu-China and 2nd Floor.
After about a year expanding his wings in Jakarta, he gained new residencies under his belt at clubs such as California Kemang, Jakarta, Burgundy – Grand Hyatt Hotel, Jakarta, X2 (Ego), before he made a second major to Kuala Lumpur to join Jiro KL as a (continuing) founding resident when the club opened its doors in late 2016.
Since then, Alan Tand has had the chance to open and play alongside international DJs visiting KL such as Abel Ramos, Martin Eyerer, Eagles & Butterflies, Tiga, Darin Epsilon, Adana Twins, Chymera, Heiko Laux, Culoe De Song, David Mayer, Nuno Dos Santos, Mathias Schober, Heynah, Till Von Sein, Oliver Giacomotto, Robert Babicz and more.
