KL's Heartbeat on Display Architects Host Vibes KL Exhibition Until November 30

The Malaysian Institute of Architects (Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia – PAM) recently unveiled an exhibition that showcases the vibrant and diverse city that is Kuala Lumpur.

Bringing together works by architects, artists, photographers, graphic designers and illustrators, the exhibition titled “Vibes KL: Vibrancy and Diversity” is open to the public and will run from 28 September to 30 November 2024 at PAM Centre in Bangsar.

PAM launched the exhibition with a live painting performance by contemporary artist and process painter, Dr Jalaini Abu Hassan. The painting performance commemorates World Architecture Day 2024 which falls on the first Monday of October and is also part of this year’s Kuala Lumpur Architecture Festival (KLAF 2024) programme. Also present at the event were PAM President, Adjunct Prof Ar Adrianta Aziz, and KLAF 2024 Director, Ar Dr Lim Teng Ngiom.

The “Vibes KL: Vibrancy and Diversity” Exhibition encapsulates the essence of the city that has built a thick crust for itself and will feature photographs, illustrations and artworks in distinctive collections. Each of these works capture the spirit of life and requires an immersion into the human spirit behind the work.

These works will be displayed on the various floors of PAM Centre, where each level has been assigned a theme:

  • Ground Floor – Temu / Meet
  • 1st Floor – Jalan / Street
  • 2nd Floor - Suara / Voices
  • 3rd Floor – Rasa / Feel
  • 4th Floor – Kata / Say
  • 5th Floor – Ceria / Happy
  • 6th Floor – Jiwa / Soul

Kuala Lumpur is a multi-nodal city where the lack of symmetry in the placement of buildings – a result of constant change in an evolving city – coupled with the diversity of people and spaces has created an irregularity that gives the city and its people character,” said Adjunct Prof Ar Adrianta.

There isn’t an overarching logical curation of the exhibition except that it captures the randomness and vibrancy of people. Just as the buildings are varied and largely disorderly in downtown Kuala Lumpur, each person is a life on her own, each life being vibrant and each having a story to tell,” said Ar Dr Lim Teng Ngiom.

The “Vibes KL: Vibrancy and Diversity” Exhibition will be showing at PAM Centre at 99L Jalan Tanduk, Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur.

The viewing hours are 9.00am to 5.00pm from Monday to Friday, and 10.00am to 1.00pm on Saturdays. The exhibition is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
