AUGUST 29: Thursday

Matahari Jangan Tidure, Nanti Hilang Belang at DPAC

(August 29/31)

The hum of a broken television. An inevitable speech. The last ray of sunlight. Kiamat? Set in maybe Malaysia, Matahari Jangan Tidure, Nanti Hilang Belang gazes upon two individuals seeking normalcy in the aftermath of a cataclysmic event. In their newly distorted world, they struggle to piece together the fragmented ideas of hope, religion, and love that once existed.  A myth for a modern audience, Matahari confronts the transient nature of our existence in a world that refuses to remain still.

Matahari is devised by a multidisciplinary ensemble. It continues director Arief Hamizan’s experimentation with creation and collaboration, following his previous original work, Api, Jangan Lupa Api (2018). Matahari Jangan Tidure, Nanti Hilang Belang is staged in Malay, Mandarin and English, with English surtitles.

Featuring Ali Alasri, Kasih Azhar, Michael Chen, Sandee Chew, Milo Faeqo, Claudia Low, Hana Nadira, Visshnu Varman, Ng Hwee Yun, and Nabil Zakaria. Also in the team are Lim Sheng Hui (Assistant Director), Bryan Chang (Sceneographer), Ian Francis Khoo (Sound Designer), Ali Motamedi (Creative Collaborator), and Suhail Samsudin (Stage Manager).

Directed by Arief Hamizan. Matahari Jangan Tidure, Nanti Hilang Belang is the second of three New Projects presented by Theatresauce as part of the 2019 season.

Crackhouse presents Comedy Showdown: Malaysia vs Singapore

(August 30-31)

It's the ultimate comedy showdown! Malaysia face Singapore in a battle of wits for the right to call themselves King Of Comedy across the causeway! Get your tickets to decide who wins.

Representing Malaysia:

Sulaiman Azmil is inspired by the raconteurs of yore. A lawyer with a splendiferous fascination for polysyllabic words, he was recently listed in Top 10 of Malaysia: Top 10 New Talents in Malaysia – Stand-Up Comedy.
Riezman Radzlan. One of the youngest acts in the scene, Riezman has had an explosive impact on the scene having already shared stages with the likes of Gina Yashere, Sean Patton and Stephen K. Amos. This off-beat zany comic will charm you with his strange observations, storytelling and one liners with topics ranging from his odd family, doomed relationships, life in Malaysia after growing up abroad, and being a millennial though not a very good one.

Representing Singapore:

Qam Haziq: Hailing from the heartlands of Singapore, Qam is one of the fastest rising comics on the Singapore scene, regularly performing all over the country ever since his debut in 2015. Qam has opened for many notable acts here in Singapore including American stand-up stars Alonzo Bodden and Dwayne Perkins. In 2019, he opened for American celebrity, Tom Green, for his show in Singapore.
Jacky Ng: At 25 Years old Jacky is one of Singapore’s youngest professional comedians. With a unique sense of style and humour, his wacky stories and observations has made him one of the most popular figures in the South East Asian Comedy circuit.
