FINAL WEEK til JULY 7: The Phantom of the Opera is HERE in KL
The world’s most popular musical, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA continues its premiere in Kuala Lumpur for a limited season at the Istana Budaya, Jalan Tun Razak, KL until July 7. The Andrew Lloyd Webber blockbuster has won over 70 major theatre awards, including seven Tony’s on Broadway and four Olivier Awards in the West End. THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA became the longest running show in Broadway history on January 9, 2006 when it celebrated its 7,486th performance, surpassing the previous record holder Cats. On January 1, 2018 it celebrated its 13,000th performance and later that month on January 24, the Broadway production celebrated an amazing 30 years on Broadway.
With 130 cast, crew and orchestra members, jaw-dropping scenery, breathtaking special effects and more than 230 costumes by the late international designer Maria Björnson, THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA contains some of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s most famous and stirring music, including The Phantom of the Opera, Think of Me and Music of the Night. The original cast recording, with over 40 million copies sold worldwide, is the best-selling cast recording of all time. Tickets are now on sale through TicketCharge.
JULY 3: Open Crack. The Crackhouse Comedy Open Mic Night
Is the smoking ban taking a toll on your social life? Did you choke on your Teh Ais when you saw the Raj Banana Leaf video? JULY 5/6: Crackhouse Comedy Club presents Mohammed Magdi (EGY)
An Egyptian comedian based in Shanghai, China, Mohammed has regularly headlined Kung Fu Komedy Club, while travelling to perform in other countries including Singapore, Beijing, Shenzhen, Tokyo, Fukuoka, Osaka, Seoul, Hong Kong, Manila, Taipei, Yangon, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Dubai and Cairo to name a few.
He was the official opening act for Jim Gaffigan on his “Quality Time” tour in Shanghai in 2019, and the official opening act for Gad Elmaleh on his “Dream Tour” in Shanghai in 2018, and has also worked with Kurt Metzger, Ari Shaffir, Brad Williams, Joe Wong, Jimmy Shubert, Mark Normand and Kyle Kinane. He has recently featured on the second season of Comedy Central Arabia Stand-up show Comedy Central Presents: Stand Up, and was the first runner up of the China International Comedy Festival in 2016, and winner of the Bangkok International Comedy Festival in 2017.

JULY 5-7: Tunes from the East with the klpac Orchestra
The klpac Orchestra join forces with a few local artistes to premiere some original Chinese compositions written for solo Chinese traditional instruments accompanied by classical symphony orchestra. Featuring Ong May Yi on Ruan, Sanji Tee on Erhu, Cloud Teo on Guzheng and Sim Teck Sing on Pipa, the concert is guaranteed to provide audience an unforgettable experience of sensational oriental music backed by 60 strong full orchestra.

JULY 7: Dancebox July 2019
The Dancebox series is an ongoing project that has been run in partnership by MyDance Alliance and The Actor Studio since 2001. It is an informal performance platform which presents short works of Malaysian dance. Choreographers: Chan Kar Kah, Chai Vivan, Douglas Labadin, Fione Chia Yan Wei, and January Low.
