Simply Jazz by Tin Box
Kuala Lumpur-based trumpeter Isaac Marvin is coming to Simply Jazz by Tin Box this Wednesday 12 July 2023. An ASWARA graduate who is currently pursuing jazz theory under Michael Veerapen, Isaac's deep passion for jazz music is influenced by trumpeters such as Benny Benack III, Tom Harrell, and Roy Hargrove. The gifted trumpeter has performed at numerous events internationally in cities such as Bangkok and Taipei, sharing the stage with some of the country's finest musicians, including Sheila Majid, Aisha Retno, and Reza Salleh. Isaac's talent isn't limited to playing the trumpet, he is also a proven capable finger-style guitarist.
Craving a chill night? Next up is special guest singer Izen Kong this 14 – 15 July 2023. A familiar face in reality tv singing competitions within the region, Izen Kong is known for his bilingualism and humour in discussions of jazz techniques. The versatile vocalist has appeared on television programs such as ‘The Voice’ for Singapore/Malaysia, and ‘Come Sing with Me’ for China in 2021, and performed alongside renowned artistes such as Ida Mariana, Rashid Salleh, and Gerard Selonga. Some of his notable appearances include the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, MPO Goes Broadway, R&H and Opera In The Park by Singapore Lyric Opera.

Pentas 1: Luna 路呐 (SEA Premiere) 14-16 July 2023. Embark on a journey of self-discovery through nature, traditions and dance with Bulareyaung Dance Company’s award-winning performance Luna. Catch their SEA premiere right here in Malaysia at klpac. Luna was originally commissioned by the National Taichung Theater and choreographed by Bulareyaung Pagarlava (Ten Outstanding Young Persons of Taiwan in 2012 & National Award of Arts 2022). The Malaysian premiere will be presented by the Taipei Economic & Cultural Office in Malaysia and klpac with the support of the Ministry of Culture (Taiwan), Damansara Performing Arts Centre and Pixel World.
Pentas 2: Roads Await 向前有路 15-16 July 2023. ‘Roads Await’ is a 75-minute dance production premiering in conjunction with Dua Space Dance Theatre’s 25 anniversary this year. The company’s founders, Anthony Meh and Aman Yap released this latest creation to share their sentiments about withstanding the surge of the pandemic and how the company continues creating possibilities on the road of dreams.
Anthony & Aman created ‘Roads Await’ that tells the story of the company members, yet reflects the circumstances, inner emotions, and troubled minds of every soul that have gone through the 3-year turbulence, hoping to encourage everyone who is recovering from and still pursuing their dreams at the current post-pandemic time.

Stage 1 Theatre: 14-16 July 2023. Sakti – Malay folk tales, aerial artistry, drumming theatre. 'Ulek Mayang' (one of the oldest art forms in Malaysia) is a traditional Malay folk dance/tale, treasured by Malaysians. Synergizing the artistry of air artists VIVA Circus and musicians HANDS Percussion in narrating excerpts of this story not only promises a very interesting collaboration but will present visuals that audiences will find captivating. SAKTI is their first full collaboration where they sought to merge art forms to create a unique interpretation of this captivating folktale. It will be performed across the stage through aerial acrobatics and accompanied by contemporary music with drums, percussion, gamelan, and other musical instruments. Look forward to their drummers in a new challenge to express their artistry through expertly choreographed aerial acrobatics (using specialist fabrics) accompanied by new and rearranged Malay song compositions.
