Pentas 2: True Love Waits: Tribute to Radiohead concert is happening this week (10-13 August 2023 ) as a pre-fest concert before hitting the festival finale on 19-20 August 2023. About the Show: It took Radiohead 21 years to release “True Love Waits” and three years for “True Love Waits: Tribute to Radiohead” to finally premiere as part of YSDAF 2023’s pre-festival highlight. This tribute takes you through the extraordinary legacy of one of the greatest bands of all time. Fans will be stoked to hear songs spanning three decades starting from their debut single Creep through albums like OK Computer, Kid A, Hail to the Thief and their latest offering A Moon Shaped Pool. Led by directors and music directors Ian Chow (Best Musical Direction, BOH Cameronian Arts Awards) and Mak Chi Hoe as well as co-director and choreographer Kenny Shim, this multi-sensorial feast combines the 30-strong The Young KL Singers (Best Group Performance – Vocal, BOH Cameronian Arts Awards) performing haunting harmonies arranged by Dr. Tracy Wong with an immersive multimedia and LED installation by Wee Jia Foong, movement by the Kenny Shim Dance Collective and music by cellist Eugene Chong, electric guitarist Daniel Lee and loop programmer Ian Francis Khoo.

Indicine: so happy i could die is an immersive and participative theatrical event where audiences collectively decide on the actions of the Protagonist as they encounter Death. Will they come to terms with the end of their life or will they avoid it like a plague? Can happiness, fulfilment, and acceptance go hand-in-hand with an impending expiry date? This project came about from the production team’s introspections on the moments of intense happiness in their lives. Outside performance hours, the set, designed by Jun Ong and Wee Jia Foong, will transform into an exhibition where audiences get a closer and more intimate look at the project’s world and themes. Audiences are invited to engage, interact, and immerse themselves in the design beyond the parameters of performance. Entrance to this exhibition is free.

FONO KL

Music curation and DIY multipurpose space. Only open during events, please refer to their monthly flyer or “upcoming” highlights at https://www.facebook.com/fono.kl and their Instagram page https://www.instagram.com/fono.kl/.

They may not be THE hip hop destination in KL but at fono, they love their hip hop and its original spirit rooted in community building and social commentary. Exactly 50 years after the historic and first hip hop party thrown by Jamaican immigrant DJ Kool Herc (inspired by reggae sound system culture obviously), they are paying homage by hosting a two-night celebration of hip hop music in their very small room - making it the smallest hip hop festival in Malaysia? On Friday, their house band (formed specifically just for this!) will play some of the iconic hip hop anthems and their sample sources - a setlist curated by fono’s very own hip hop heads, which was very tough btw and over 50 tracks didn’t make the cut.
Meanwhile, on Saturday night, they will take you back to the foundations of hip hop - funky breaks and soulful rhythms on the 1s and 2s. Of course, the DJs on duty will also be rocking the best of hip hop throughout these past five decades.
Limited space, DM them to book a spot.

Opening hours 9PM to 1AM. Cover charges apply. They recommend you make a reservation via Instagram DM to secure your spot for the night.
