Kyoto Protocol to headline Syok Rock this Saturday at Drum Asia Studio, Hartamas

Sid Menon Presents and Drum Asia, a prominent name in the Malaysian music scene, join forces to present "Syok Rock," an exhilarating event featuring some of the top Malaysian Indie Rock bands. This vibrant musical celebration will take place at Drum Asia Studio in Hartamas on January 25, 2025, starting at 7:00 PM.

"Syok Rock" promises an unforgettable night of musical exploration and diversity, showcasing the unique sounds and styles of four outstanding Malaysian Indie Rock bands: Kyoto Protocol, Fuad, Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men, Patriots and Djezna's Stalker.

Kyoto Protocol: The ultimate underdog success story. Starting as a pub circuit cover band in Kuala Lumpur, they rose to prominence through sheer determination, eventually sharing stages with global icons like The Killers, Death Cab for Cutie, and Tenacious D. The band has since headlined tours across Malaysia and Asia, cultivating a devoted fanbase.

Their album, The Pen is Mightier, earned widespread acclaim, with the single The End peaking at #31 on Spotify’s Top 50 Viral Tracks and the album named one of Bandwagon’s "Best Releases of 2018." In 2019, they celebrated their 10th anniversary with a groundbreaking concert-turned- rockumentary and released their first live album, TEN, in 2020. Kyoto Protocol has continued their creative momentum with new singles in 2021, 2022, and 2024, building excitement for big plans in 2025.

Billie Blue & The Nowhere Men: craft a unique sound blending folk, acid rock, and blues. Fronted by Billie Blue, the band’s music is driven by her dynamic vocal range, which seamlessly combines power and grit with ethereal tones. Their lyrical themes delve into the complexity of human emotions, inspired by folklore and the natural world. In 2018, BBTNM released their debut album, featuring the single Emperor, which earned a VIMA Music Award nomination.

Their music has been spotlighted in Malaysian and Indian publications, and the band toured India in January 2020. Billie also received the Festival Director’s Choice Award at Malaysia’s 2023 Short + Sweet Arts Festival for her original song Persimmon Tree.

Fuad: A Malaysian Alt-Indie sibling duo from Bukit Jelutong, blending Dream Pop and Alternative Rock. Lisa and Arief Fuad create lush, dreamy soundscapes exploring coming-of-age themes through their debut album 'Dispositions' and latest singles 'Wait and See' and 'Kopi'. Patriots: Shah Alam's modern rock veterans known for their 'POPMOSH' sound, combining pop-punk and hardcore with bilingual lyrics since 2009.

Djezna’s Stalker: A Malaysian hard rock powerhouse since 2005, known for their signature 'Djezna Rock' style and explosive live performances. From their 2014 EP to a successful Japan tour, the band has evolved their sound through releases like 'Unplugged' (2023) and singles 'Wish You Better' and 'Memori Silamku', with new tracks on the horizon.
