The Malaysian Jazz Marathon with its theme ‘Keeping Music Alive’, is a virtual 12hour jazz-athon that is happening this Sunday 15 November 2020.
Featuring 20 diverse musical acts that volunteered to be part of this fundraiser concert, the Malaysian Jazz Marathon aims to not only provide a platform for local jazz musicians to flaunt their talents and grace the stages once again but also as a means to raise funds for the Malaysian Jazz Piano festival’s latest cause - the Malaysian Real Book (MRB) Project.
A brainchild of musical icon Michael Veerapen and 8 other Malaysian jazz pianists, MJPF started off primarily as a gathering for pianists alike and evolved into a festival for all that celebrates the jazz tradition and community in Malaysia. The MRB Project, spearheaded by Tay Cher Siang, will be a compilation and showcase of acclaimed Malaysian popular tunes and folk songs - a first of its kind in the history of Malaysian music.
Optimistically, not only will the international jazz community have easier access to Malaysian music, but it is in hope that this contributes to the preservation and continuity of Malaysia’s cultural legacy for the future generations to come.
Save the date this 15 November 2020 and join them on an exuberant yet intimate, back-to-back live music experience through your screens in the comforts (and safety) of your homes. Performing will be Junji & David Gomes, 3YO, Shaun & Jessica, The Frankie Sixes, New Village Music Lab, Kangkung Belacan, Michael Veerapen, Wong Foo Jeng, Fusion Service, Sophia Ng & The Frozen Mug, BonaHop, FAZZ, Private Property ft 3 of Us, JSY, Jiwang, Rizal Tony, Janet Lee, Aaron Teoh, Eddin Khoo and Cyanus.
