Matze and Johannes (Mat.Joe) are two young men with a hip-hop and house affection conquering Berlin who return to Kuala Lumpur for Panthers Birthday Bash at Kyo KL on the 24th February 2018. Their productions come to life in a Neukölln backyard where studio equipment and DJ decks meet desiccated plants. A natural development when music has become the top priority from dusk till dawn.
Back in 2006, rap, breakdance and skateboarding were the passions that made them best buddies and this deep connection is reflected in their music, again and again. In 2008, they formed the producer team Twomanics and concentrated on authentic and credible hip-hop productions for independent artists.
Originally from Hannover, they moved to Berlin for new artistic challenges and after MySpace, mixtapes and candy, Mat.Joe have found their own style: crispy house beats paired with rhythmic soul and hip-hop elements. The result is deep and dancefloor-qualified, warm and rough.
Inspiration is found everywhere between subway rides, late night showers and favourite bars. New ideas are kept manically on every smartphone nearby. This is sound autism at the highest stage. Mat.Joe's love for music and the ambition to improve are the main ingredients that keep the engine running.
Also featuring for the night Lzzy and Rob G (Connected).
LZZY, formerly known as LissaZombie is a Malaysian-based self-taught DJ who found her inspiration through numerous club and house parties across Kuala Lumpur since 2010. She kicked off her career as a DJ as part of an electroclash duo, TheViciousZombies alongside Jonnyvicious. The two played across a handful of events with their signature style of tribal-hard-hitting jungle electro but parted ways in 2012 with their own individual interests in music.
Going solo, LZZY started exploring different styles of genres that included nu disco, deep house, tech house and techno with the array of residencies she had across Kuala Lumpur. Withdrawing inspiration from fellow DJs and the recent build-up in the underground scene here in the city has since given the opportunity for LZZY to play across Malaysia and Singapore.
She has since held residencies and played in Skybar, Milk, Lust, Frangipani, Twentyone, MaiBar, Bedroom, Casbah, Palete Pallete, and Pisco Bar in Kuala Lumpur. She has also played in venues across Malaysia such as the Press, Hin Bus Depot, G Hotel and Equatorial Hotel in Penang, House Club in Ipoh, MIXX and Equatorial Hotel in Melaka, Club Celebrities in Miri, Bar 35 in Kota Kinabalu and Reborn Club in Tawau.
Rob G, with his deep driving, tech house brand of music, brings an energy and enthusiasm that carries into his live performances — at events, festivals and his regular sets at Privi and Elysium — where it’s about finding, creating and recreating those ‘goosebump’ moments.
Amazing experiences is his goal which is driven by his mantra of “Amazing things, with amazing people”. This rings true in everything he does; from the thought, effort and attention to detail of the events hosted at his establishment, Privi, to getting behind the decks and rocking a club. As he says - “all of which is driven by the amazing people I’m lucky enough to be surrounded by”
“The greatest joy is seeing someone else get goosebumps, whether from what we play or from the events we put on. That’s the goal.”
