As we enter 2018, Matt Smallwood who will be appearing for Art Xtreme Media & Connected at Privi on the 11th May now comes with 20 years of experience in the world of dance music. Through DJing, producing and of course managing the world renowned Toolroom Records label in the UK where he also heads up the A&R team, alongside label founder Mark Knight.
As a DJ, Matt was playing in clubs long before the time when DJ careers were considered cool or glamorous. He cut his teeth on the underground techno circuit of London in the late 90s / early 00s in clubs like The Chunnels and Imperial Gardens. It was here where he really learned his craft, worked hard week in, week out, soon became a respected name on the circuit and landed 3 residencies by the time he was just 19 years old.
The next natural progression was music production and once again within a few short years Matt had enjoyed huge success on the world's biggest labels and even had Pete Tong name check him as one to watch when his track 'Perfect Sunrise' (with Ali Wilson & Tristan Ingram) was spun on Pete's legendary radio one show; and went on to be signed to Toolroom.
But he didn't stop here, his now classic remix of Inner City’s 'Good Life' was his first ever Beatport #1, championed by self-confessed Smallwood fan Carl Cox, and propelled his career massively back in 2014. From here on in, Matt was taken seriously as a respected solo producer and went on to enjoy more success across various labels including Toolroom, Toolroom Trax and Tube & Berger's infamous Kittball with whom he achieved a Beatport top 10 with vocal smash 'Keep Pushin'.
Taking all this production success into account it was now that Matt's DJing career really flourished and he began traveling the world regularly, hitting international spots such as New Zealand, Miami, Switzerland, Ibiza, Malaysia, Singapore, France, Mexico and Brazil. He was also made resident DJ for the Toolroom live brand and often represents the face and sound of Toolroom all over the world. He continues to share his tough and groovy house sounds in all corners of the globe and after 20 years, shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon...
Connected is a group of DJs and music lovers committed to promoting the music they love in the place they love - KL. They are all about bringing together local, regional and international DJ's/Producers and highlighting their talent to the music lovers of KL. Geddes, Niall F, Anthony J and Rob G will warm up the floor with House, Tech House, Deep House and Techno.
