This weekend Pisco Bar KL and Barrio upstairs feature internationals Telephones and Mo Kolour on 12 – 13 October 2018
12 October 2018 at Barrio by Pisco Bar Invites Telephones (Norway)
Bergen-Rimini-Chicago-Honolulu-Detroit-Jupiter-Manchester is the sonic route on which Telephones travels but looks like he will be gracing us in Kuala Lumpur this October.
Starting with primitive PC-software and DJing in the late 90s, Telephones debuted in his hometown Bergen, Norway at the turn of the century as an underage, snuck into clubs and put behind decks by the lively scene around Tellé Records. Since then he has equally focused on production and DJing, now with over 17 years experience behind decks and knobs.
Telephones has released a sparse, but highly sought after discography on acclaimed underground-labels like Running Back, Sex Tags UFO, Acido, Love On The Rocks and Full Pupp. In 2015 he was also responsible for production and remixing of Jose Padilla’s much celebrated “Day One” single on International Feel, following up Telephones’ sound and success of “The Ocean Called EP” from 2014, whereas the track “Blaff” became an international underground-hit, awarded as #16 on Resident Advisor’s list of 2014’s Best Tracks.
Late 2016 Telephones released his debut album, “Vibe Telemetry” on Running Back, taking his eclecticism and sound one step further, expanding the palette with influences from early Norwegian club-roots, Ambient House, NY House and Disco, 90s UK Balearic, Italo House, Underground Resistance and Detroit Techno. The album received praise and reviews from publications such as XLR8R, Mixmag, iDJ, Future Music, Resident Advisor, DJ Mag and Testpressing.
The last years has taken Telephones around the world touring Asia, Australia and the Americas, playing as diverse locations as Sao Paulo, Taipei, New York, Tokyo and Melbourne, as well as laying it down in his home-turf at some of the best underground clubs Europe has to offer, such as Berghain/Panorama Bar, Corsica Studios, Robert Johnson and festivals like Dimensions, The Garden and Love International. Prepare for a fine blend of supersonic deep space techno, funk, disco and love.
Supported by JonnyVicious and anType. Admission (with one drink): RM30.
13 October 2018 at Pisco Bar KL – Mo Kolours (One Handed Music, UK)
Mo Kolours is a half-Mauritian, half-English producer, singer and percussionist recording for One-Handed Music. His latest album Inner Symbols is a wonderful and eclectic mix of tribal scores and synths that come together perfectly. Mo's rhythmic power through his music comes to life as we sway you away with his live sets
The album Mo Kolours follows a trilogy of EPs for One-Handed Music that mixed soul, dub, hip-hop, various electronic styles and the Sega music native to Mauritius. Recognising Mo’s singular voice Gilles Peterson invited him to Maida Vale Studios to record a live session for the BBC before his first EP had even hit the shelves. Now Mo counts the likes of Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Friendly Fires’ Jack Savidge among his fans. Mo Kolours will be sexing up the terrace with a live set of 90 mins.
JonnyVicious and CEE will be featuring on opening and closing for the night.
