For ONE night only, THE underground institution of KL’s scene of the early “tennys” (2010s) makes a resurgence this April 14 2018 on the Roof Terrace of Le Noir KL at TREC KL.
QUINTE RESURGENCE makes a special return for ONE NIGHT only, bringing you underground house and tech vibes with the original Quinte residents, founder Alex Martin, DJ Kuma, DJ Mie, together with special guest and multiple Quinte guest, Marco Loco (UK/Koh Phangan).
Quinte’s place in KL’s clubbing history is now legendary. It was over seven years ago when the club opened on Heritage Row in central KL and it rapidly became the toast of off-mainstream KL. For over two and a half years since the end of 2010, Quinte served as THE go to club for some of the most underground house and techno vibes you could find in KL. And, after a 15 month hiatus, it returned in late 2015 for a second and third stint at nearby venues until August 2016.
Quinte’s focus has always been underground and it was deemed a local space for artists to perform, to experiment, to showcase their talents, in underground electronic dance music. That was what the stage was about as it focused on the underground scene. Not just the music culture, it was also about giving these people the freedom and ability to express themselves and play those records that they cannot play at any other bar or venue.
It was the kind of space where you walked in and see the local DJ (with guests on occasion) championing the dance floor. It was that kind of place, a foundation for the local scene at the time.
Marco Loco is one of the most versatile DJs in the industry today; a true specialist in several different genres ranging from chillout/downtempo to funk/disco through to house and techno. Glasgow-born/Ibiza-influenced Marco Loco has been involved in the dance music industry since pretty much the turn of this millennium, have spent a decade and a half of Northern Hemisphere summers DJing in Ibiza where he has held some of the most prestigious residencies on the island such as Space (residing for Carl Cox, Toolroom Knights, Ibiza Calling & Cafe Ole), Manumission, Cafe Del Mar, Salinas Beach, Eden, Es Paradis, Es Vive Hotel, Hush and Savannah.
Playing over 100 gigs every summer in a variety of the island’s coolest hotspots, he has held a residency at his beloved club Space Ibiza for around eight years, showcasing all his different styles.
He was the sole promoter of Ibiza Groove, which has run parties since 2003 at various venues including Es Vive Hotel, Es Paradis, Salinas Beach and Hush. He is also responsible for the legendary morning boat parties, Shipwrecked aka Barco Loco.
Marco’s Ibiza DJ residencies have included: Space, Manumission, Es Paradis, Eden, Salinas Beach, Es Vive Hotel, Coco Beach, Hush, Shipwrecked, Savannah and Global Radio. He has also had the pleasure of playing at Café del Mar, Privilege, Underground, The Zoo Project, The Shit Party, Cala Conta, Las Dalias, The Grial and many more…
After years of boat parties in Ibiza, Marco now sails the seas of Gulf of Thailand, predominantly around the islands of Koh Phangan, Koh Samui and Koh Tao, continuing to specialise in underground house/techno, where Marco has been spending the last decade of winters DJing, residing at some of the best underground parties there such Jungle Experience (Koh Phangan), Cha Cha Moon (Koh Samui) & The Castle (Koh Tao), Loi Lay and the Charm Beach Parties, just to name a few.
During the winter months, he also tours regularly around UK, US, Australia, Dubai and all over Asia. Away from the DJ booth, Marco can be found in the studio, working on numerous projects, from downtempo to full on peak time floor fillers. He’s had several releases to critical acclaim including his debut artist album Nights of Ibiza, released in October 2013 on Celestial Recordings.
His appetite for the music he loves is admirable and for anyone that has witnessed one of his sets, he clearly loves his job. The ear to ear grin is as much a trademark of a Marco Loco set as the trusted trilby hat. The fact he is in demand in so many venues is testament to his ability and professionalism with which he treats his craft.
Custodian of deep, rhythmic dance beats and a care-free atmosphere. That’s how Alex Martin describes himself as a DJ, never afraid to go too deep, his emotive musical selections are his own therapy.
Today this translates into sets where he picks apart and infuses together all the pieces of this music that he loves best – beautiful synth work, ethereal backdrops, brooding basslines, and occasional vocal hooks.. all on top of a pronounced foot-shuffling house beat.
“For me, it’s all about emotions and a deep, hypnotic groove… playing tracks that get you tapping your feet and nodding your head without you realising it, regardless of genre, tempo style or release date.”
A natural musician, Alex developed a passion for house music in the early 2000s and by 2011 he was playing to big room audiences at Quinte and Desire on Heritage Row, Kuala Lumpur. As the resident and founder of the underground house club, Quinte, along with KL techno-house veteran DJ Kuma, from its conception in 2010 to 2016, Quinte was notably one of the clubs that stuck to a strict underground music policy.
And since July, this year, he’s co-founded and runs one of the most talked about Pool Parties in the Kuala Lumpur scene in recent years. He has graced the podium alongside names such as Marco Bailey, Jay Lumen, Mark Farina, Daniel Portman, Marco Loco, Ahmet Sendil, Randy Seidman, Graham Gold, Nakadia and many more. He is also a frequent guest resident in Koh Phangan for the Full Moon Party, Jungle Experience, Sramanora Waterfall Party, Echo Beach and Mellow Mountain Full Moon Night.
Recognised as one of the regions’ most influential figures in the electronic dance music genre, DJ Kuma’s signature mix – progressive and techno are his forte, earning him the Most Outstanding House Music DJ accolade in 2015 and placing him in the Top 3 Artists Of The Week on the world famous Frisky Radio. In recent years he has been widely associated with iconic trademarks including Zouk, Ibiza and European music festivals. Kuma made his debut on the world stage of electronic dance music by being the first Malaysian DJ to spin at the Ibiza’s Club Eden, HUSH, Es Paradise, Es Vive and the Pukka Up Boat Parties.
In recent years some of Kuma’s notable appearances include Berlin's famous underground club Crack Bellmer, Sugar in Australia, Womb in Tokyo, Pacha in Macau, plus appearances at ADE Amsterdam playing Minimal Amsterdam for ADE showcase. Additionally, Kuma has regular appearances at the EPIZODE festival in Vietnam and in Yangon, Myanmar for their Rumours nights, a three month residency at Asia’s biggest super club ZOUK Kuala Lumpur for their Revolution nights, and regular appearances in Koh Phangan for the Jungle Experience and Full Moon Party.
DJ Mie has a sophisticated appeal and charisma in putting together the best music and selection in his sets. As early as his first residency in 1993, he has always put a mark of influences on people who come to listen to his musical styles, making him one of the most sought after DJs in the industry. His versatility and efficiency in changing styles make him a proud owner of his success as a disc jockey.
Based in the capital city of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, DJ Mie has been through many terrains in the club circuit gaining more experience and momentum through sheer consistency. He definitely has what it takes to entertain people from all walks of life, be it local and international. Whether he is easing them into a soulful vibe with the chill-out sounds of R&B, or lifting them up with pumping house, he knows how to rock a party. His many stints include co-resident at Quinte back in the day as well as the main resident to Quinte’s sister club Desire, itself another legendary hot spot during the periods of 2010-2013.
