A very special Merdeka Weekend sees new cocktail bar in old Chinatown Rentak take on a truly unique party experience between 30 and 31 August 2019.
A music space inspired by, among other things, David Mancuso’s The Loft in New York. Rentak is a hidden gem with a tropical indoor garden is housed in a pre-war building in the heart of Chinatown. On the dance floor, enjoy specially curated playlists by local vinyl DJs playing a diverse selection of tunes on a warm analogue custom made sound system built by one of the owners.
Behind the bar, handcrafted cocktails are prepared by seasoned mixologists, each named for a beat or a pioneer in sound. Rentak specialises in cocktails (infused with local and regional herbs) and have a range of them, tastefully created by our experienced head mixologist. So do come down, sip on our concoctions, and do a little boogie too.
30th August Friday Merdeka Eve
Rentak is a new cocktail bar housed in a pre-war building in the Chinatown area. For Merdeka Eve they’ve invited two award winning guest shift mixologists, Erik and Kay who have been in the industry for over 20 years to dish out special local-themed cocktails for punters. Countdown to Merdeka with delicious pandan cocktails in your hands, while great funk and disco music blares from a huge vintage custom made soundsystem. Music will be provided by DJs Yohan & Rivers.
31st August Merdeka Day
For Merdeka Day, Rentak is hosting a special all vinyl night that focuses on local disco music and its many musical influences. Think 80s Malay and regional Nusantara styled disco music mixed with Bollywood numbers and Turkish psychedelia. Local-themed cocktails will also be served to celebrate this important day for the nation, a truly unique Merdeka Day party this is. Music will be provided by local vinyl diggers, Disko Santan and also Rentak Soundsystem.
