Review: Pink afternoon tea at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur

Review: Pink afternoon tea at Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur

Finally, with the loosening of the latest lockdown, we were looking for an excuse to get a bit dressed up and pamper ourselves. The Pink Afternoon Tea at Shangri-La seemed like a good place to start.

Afternoon Tea is always a fun way to spoil yourself, and this particular tea is also to support a good cause. In conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pink Afternoon Tea is helping to raise awareness and funds for the Breast Cancer Welfare Association Malaysia (BCWA).

Set in the main lounge, we enjoyed our Sunday afternoon, relaxing on the parlour chairs, sipping tea and nibbling on scones while we gazed lazily at the garden outside – a proper afternoon tea experience.

Three-Tiered Tea Tray

We started with a pot of English breakfast tea while the three-tiered tea trays were brought out for us. The delectable savoury treats included Beet Root Crepes with Smoked Chicken Salad, Bell Pepper & Rocket Salad and Prawn Cocktail with Pumpkin Bread. We particularly enjoyed the Roasted Tomato, Mozzarella and Basil Bruschetta with Balsamic Glaze.

The tea set also included Traditional and Cranberry Scones with Clotted Cream, Lemon Curd and Raspberry Jam. The scones were not too large and were quite light and fluffy, so it was easy to enjoy both of them without getting overly filled. The Lemon Curd is one of Shangri-La's signature items, and it was a luscious topping for the scones.

After the savouries and scones, we moved on to the selection of gorgeously decorated pastries, which topped the Afternoon Tea tray. We relished the Red Berry Tart with Strawberry Cream and Raspberry Macaroon, with the Bahibe Milk Chocolate Mousse with Almond Crumble being both our favourites.

The chefs and team were really great at preparing a fully vegetarian version of the Afternoon Tea for me, and I enjoyed every bite. They are happy to accommodate any guest this way, either if you call in advance or are just a walk-in guest.

Besides the tea, guests can look to purchase the Pink Courage Pin, priced at RM20 per piece, with proceeds donated to BCWA. There are also several Pink October Goodies in the bakery. While we didn’t try any of these, they all looked beautiful and were also to support the cause.

After a long lockdown, the Pink Afternoon Tea was a dainty, relaxing and satisfying way to pamper ourselves - and to support a good cause!

The Pink Afternoon Tea is priced at RM84 Nett per adult with a choice of either coffee or tea. There is also a child set priced at RM54 Nett. Both sets are also available for delivery and self-pickup.
