Internationally renowned DJ/producer Armin van Buuren recently celebrated 850 episodes of his weekly radio show A State of Trance that he started in 2001. Today, the radio show broadcasts to over 37 million listeners in 84 countries on over 100 FM radio stations and digital platforms. Towards the end of every year, Armin van Buuren invites listeners to vote for their favourite record as the A State of Trance Tune Of The Year. The list of nominees comprises of tracks featured on at least one of the A State of Trance weekly episodes throughout 2018.
This year, Malaysian DJ/producer duo Simon Lee & Alvin have 3 tracks in the running for this poll. Their singles Driftoff, Robos and Why I Came Here (with Susie Ledge) were featured on several A State of Trance radio episodes earlier this year. All 3 releases were also signed to Armada Music, the record label of Armin van Buuren and one of the world's leading exporters of electronic music. This is first time in history that a Malaysian artiste is nominated for the award with three singles in the same year. The duo are looking to outdo their previous 2016 record of landing their hit single Xcelerate in position #66 for the same award.
“2018 has undoubtedly been our biggest year for our music. We are so grateful to have three releases on Armada Music this year and have all of them in the running for the A State of Trance Tune of The Year poll,” Lee said.
“We really are just two friends from a small town who started this thing a decade ago purely as a passion project with no expectations and here we are now. I hope we continue to represent Malaysia well and share the spotlight with the many rising stars from this region on the global electronic music stage.”
Since they began collaborating on electronic music 11 years ago, Simon Lee & Alvin have released over 25 official singles and remixes across various record labels. Their pounding productions receive constant support by A-list DJs and have been played to thousands of revellers at festivals such as Tomorrowland and Amsterdam Dance Event. They are also consistently featured on Spotify, YouTube, Beatport, and radio stations globally. Their weekly radio show Fly Fm Fly Five-O that features local and international electronic music continues to grow in listenership and popularity, surpassing 550 episodes this year. They are currently signed exclusively to Armada Music and are positioned to release more music in the coming year.
The final list of the top voted tracks will be broadcast on a highly anticipated episode in December and immortalised on the annual A State of Trance 2018 Yearmix compilation which will be released worldwide both physically and through digital platforms.
