Steve "Silk" Hurley Marini's on 57 4 May 2018

Four-time GRAMMY®-nominee and pioneering house music DJ/producer Steve ”Silk” Hurley makes a long overdue return to KL when he steps into Marini’s on 57 for the high rise club bar’s It’s All About House series on 4 MAY 2018.

The Chicago-based producer, remixer, songwriter and deejay is known for his signature mixing skills and diverse mixing style. It was through exercising this creative expression that he eventually released his first single entitled “Music Is The Key”, which soared to the #9 position on the Billboard Dance Chart, establishing him as one of the pioneers of house music and validating him as a producer.  At the time, J.M. Silk was Hurley’s DJ moniker, but with the success of “The Key”, it became the name of a bonafide singing group consisting of seasoned vocalist Keith Nunnally and Hurley, who was a newcomer to the stage.

Hurley quickly intensified his credentials as a producer and artist when J.M. Silk was signed to the RCA Records label, and astonished the industry with a string of #1 dance hits, including I Cant Turn Around and Let The Music Take Control. And with solo single Jack Your Body making No. 1 in the UK Singles chart early in 1987, cemented his name in house music history.

While maintaining a successful production career in which he has sold several million records, Hurley has still remained true to his DJ roots. He is an international DJ, and has been featured since 1994 on the nationally-syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show in the United States, which has over 8 million listeners.

It was there that he pioneered a new format of mixing, blending of two or more songs from distinctly different genres and eras of music to generate a harmonious blend. This helped Hurley build a reputation as “The Mashup King” with his mixshow segment called The Old Skool New Skool Remix.

Fast forward a couple of decades, Hurley launched his highly anticipated Internet Radio Station, MashUpFM  (www.MashUpFM.com) on 1 June 2016, which airs Mashups in the day and HOUSE MUSIC ALL NIGHT LONG, presented by S&S Chicago/S&S Records, Inc.  S&S Records, Inc./S&S Chicago, Inc. (www.snschicago.com) has been responsible for major house music events in Chicago that have averaged an attendance of over 4,000 people.

Over the years, Hurley has written, remixed and/or produced chart-topping gold and platinum songs for some of the music industry’s biggest names, including Michael Jackson, Prince, Boyz II Men, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige, Chaka Khan, Madonna, Jennifer Lopez, and R. Kelly. He has also appeared on ESPN’s 30 for 30, TV-One’s UnSung!, The Oprah Show, and in countless documentaries.

“It’s All About House Music” featuring Steve “Silk” Hurley starts at 9.00pm and the cover charge is RM150 nett which includes entry to the event and a beverage.
