From classic black and white to fresh full colours and mixed media to colour wash, renowned Malaysian fashion illustrator, Lihuà bares all at her exclusive solo exhibition at NegArt, Kuala Lumpur. Featuring artworks from her 10-year career, STROKES OF FASHION: A Decade of Lihuà, brings attention to the reimagination of conventional fashion illustration.
“I try to put movement into my drawing such as things you’d never see in photography,” said Lihuà. “I don’t like showing complete visuals in my work. I like to leave space for movement. My techniques go as far as my strokes. Then the watercolours take a life of their own and dances with the paper. This makes the drawings come alive. This is what fashion designers want with their creations.”
Regularly featured in the media, Lihuà has done pivotal works with top fashion houses such as Christian Louboutin, Dior, Prada, Chanel, Hugo Boss, Chaumet, and more. Lihuà’s delicate yet strong art work, which was inspired by fashion media, music and museums all over Europe and Asia, was featured at the Taoyuan International Illustration Exhibition in Taiwan in September last year.
STROKES OF FASHION: A Decade of Lihuà will present the artist’s most intrinsic, deep-down moments throughout her decade in the business. “I started with digital and then I felt that I could control everything with the computer,” she said. “It was stiff and lifeless. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. With my illustrations, I interpret my emotions, and styles through my classic training in Chinese calligraphy. I hope to bring this to my show and beyond.”
For an evening with Lihuà and her curated creations, especially if you’re a collector and enthusiasts, STROKES OF FASHION: A Decade of Lihuà will be illuminating and insightful to experience.
STROKES OF FASHION: A Decade of Lihuà opens 22 April from 7-10 p.m. at NegArt, 23, Jln Mesui, Bukit Bintang, 50200 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur.
