Sunshine Sunday – even when it is raining!
Looking for the perfect way to round off your weekend and set you up for the week ahead? Look no further than The Sunday Sessions at the Pacific Standard Bar in the Alila Bangsar. The 41st-floor bar’s laid-back decor, chilled out beats and terrific views provide a stylish background for a boozy brunch or early evening drink.
They have developed a special drinks menu, including classics such as Mimosas, Gin & Tonic and the ubiquitous Bloody Mary alongside tasty newbies such as the delectable Kiwi Spritz, Americano and Coco Spritz. To soak up the alcohol, a small bites menu is available too.
My visit began outside enjoying the terrace with views over Bangsar and despite it being a dull rainy day, my Aperol Spritz brought an element of sunshine to proceedings. The citrusy burst of the Aperol combined beautifully with the bubbles of the Prosecco to lift my spirits on this damp day. My partner went for a classic g&t, and whilst I am not personally a fan of tonic, even I could appreciate the perfect balance when teamed with the botanical gin.
With our drinks, we ordered a basket of the mini breakfast pastries and apart from a pain au chocolate I had in Paris many moons ago, these were the nicest I have ever had. The basket contained a buttery, flaky pain au chocolate, Danish, croissant, and an apple pastry. Completing the 5 piece basket was a small, almost melting in the middle, chocolate muffin. Other options available on the menu were succulent sliders, patatas bravas with chorizo, boozy popsicles and a seasonal cheese platter. However, the star of the menu is the oysters, served in either 3 or 6 piece portions. This carefully curated menu of delights is the perfect accompaniment to the drinks selection.
Now back to the most important task at hand – drinking! No Sunday Session would be complete without the traditional hangover cure of a Bloody Mary. Here at Pacific Standard, you have a full menu of choices to create a bespoke version or you can stick to the classic. Choose your alcohol base from vodka, bourbon, tequila or mezcal, pick a seasoning from a range of sauces such as Tabasco, Worcestershire and Himalayan salt. Then, add some dressings such as olives, pickles and celery and watch as your drink is mixed with the freshly house-made Bloody Mary mix and served exactly to your order.
The atmosphere at Pacific Standard is always one of relaxed indulgence and the Sunday Sessions hit the bullseye on this score.
