Brooklyn’s Talib Kweli at Kyo KL
Kyo KL presents Talib Kweli. The Brooklyn-based MC earned his stripes as one of the most lyrically-gifted, socially aware and politically insightful rappers to emerge in the last 20 years.
“I’m a touring artist. I’m an artist that’s internationally known. I’m not just a local artist at this point in my career. I’m cognizant of the fact that what I do is beyond where it started. I’m trying to reach the apex of where I am now, but without turning my back on or dismissing what I’ve done before.”
After nearly 20 years of releasing mesmerizing music, Talib Kweli stands as one of the world’s most talented and most accomplished Hip Hop artists. Whether working with Mos Def as one-half of Black Star, partnering with producer Hi-Tek for Reflection Eternal, releasing landmark solo material or collaborating with Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Just Blaze, J Dilla, or Madlib, Kweli commands attention by delivering top-tier lyricism, crafting captivating stories and showing the ability to rhyme over virtually any type of instrumental.
In 2011, Kweli founded Javotti Media, which is self-defined as “a platform for independent thinkers and doers.” Kweli has set out to make Javotti Media (which released his 2011 album, Gutter Rainbows, and is named after his paternal grandmother) into a media powerhouse that releases music, films and books.

Ronggeng Sound System 012 (Reggae Edition) at Under 9
Reggae music is the foundation of Ronggeng Sound System - the original sound that is responsible for dubstep, jungle, drum’n’bass, and even hip hop. The upcoming edition of Ronggeng night will see the boys bringing down the tempo so you can trade your gunfingers with some easy skankin' on the dance floor. Exactly a year ago, the first annual Ronggeng Reggae featured regional comrades Diggy Dang from India, RPD from the Philippines and Masia One from Singapore. This year, Ronggeng celebrates eerie vibes and conscious music with Earl Gateshead and Dan Wiltshire from the UK.
Earl Gateshead has been DJing since the late 70s and became one of the first non-Jamaicans to build his own sound system, which he installed at the world famous Dive Bar in Soho, London. And it was there, he became a resident DJ for over 20 years. Earl also enjoyed Saturday night residencies at the internationally acclaimed Blue Note, Fabric and Floating Point's Plastic People. For 12 years, he was the selector for Trojan Sound System and was the only DJ to date to work with Banksy, after the world famous artist invited him to play at the first three exhibitions of his work.
Touring Asia with Earl is a seasoned promoter and fellow reggae enthusiast - Dan Wiltshire of One Love Festival, the only camping reggae festival in the UK. A real DJ's identity lives within their collection, and Dan is no exception. His collection is like a box of jewels; first press vinyl and dubplates but also with an open heart for new sounds.
The night will be supported by Tubby of Bud Culture and PS Dub Station which consists of Ronggeng's Renry Hollins and members from his Public School collective - The Easybabasound and Naj Frusciante. As we say here in Malaysia, Jom Ronggeng!
UNDER9 : Bangunan Ming Annexe, 9, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur
Entry is RM20 all night. Admission: RM20.

London born Radio Rental has a wealth of experience and many years undertaken in the game. With a decade producing and 15 years spinning in the clubs, he is a man that has carefully fine-tuned his skills to a place now where he is fully confident in whatever aspect of the industry he turns to.

He’s currently signed to such impressive labels as Zulu Records (My Digital Enemy), Subterraneo Records (Dolly Rockers), Malfunktion Deep and a future release on Pukka Up and Spinning in Ibiza.
In the last 12 months alone he has been on direct warm up duties for the likes of Mark Knight, Dennis Ferrer, Mendo, Sebastien Leger, Prok & Fitch, My Digital Enemy and Mr C. This summer promises to be busy with many gigs already arranged in the UK, the Netherlands and Ibiza.

Girls Got Groove 15 at Elysium Box
Girls Got Groove returns with monthly regular sass and badass music picks by their lovely DJ ladies from near and far up at Elysium's 32nd.
This week Meliha, Niza Minx, Rimka and Biscuit will be honking the horn for a fun gathering that features fantastic house and techno gems.
Expect a high energy party because the ladies mean business. Rimka returns to The Sweatbox after quite some time with her ethnic-infused sets of pure eclecticism, here she is joining us for an epic night.
Niza Minx, one of Malaysia's finest house music acts returns with her smooth grooves and sexy vocal bits who define her sets and as she never disappoints expect some massive sounds from her.
Resident Meliha is not only redefining her sound limits, as a complete musician- singer, DJ and performer, she has been busy in the studio. October 16 marks the date when her "Lone Ranger" EP debuts on Soul De Anima – Malaysia's newest electronic label. The EP features two remixes of some of the industry's heavyweights – Hayze and Kris Davis.
Biscuit aka Daniela is a Romanian- hailing promoter who recently started to develop her contribution to the music world by taking up on a few DJ bits and bobs to then find that she absolutely loves it. Known more for the parties she is organising with her Art Xtreme Media than DJing, she is going to try her luck behind the decks. She also says "it is totally awkward to blow your own trumpet" and she didn't mean it literally. Having no experience and not being able to perform on any instrument, all she's got is years of a dancefloor ear, an immense love for electronic music , an overwhelming passion to learn, develop and conquer her limits and a dancefloor that she needs to fill.
